#MomTok blew up during Season 1 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The show’s introduction saw the cast struggling with being providers while navigating their goals as content creators. However, after blowing up, the only natural direction to go would be the struggles of big business. That is the battle we saw the #MomTok members wrestling with in Season 2. The show has become one of the largest successes in reality television.
Jessi Revealed Whether She Believed Demi Was Seeking A Bigger Contract
The truth box became somewhat infamous over the course of the series. It made a return in one episode, as Jessi Ngatikaura thought it could help various #MomTok members work through their issues. One of the questions read, “Are you worried Demi was willing to take a bigger contract even if it meant you would be dropped from the show?”
Jessi then laughed and said, “We can’t run away from this,” while looking at Demi. For further context, Jessi explained in a confessional, “Demi and I did have a falling out a couple of months ago. It really rocked our friendship. We had a little disagreement about money.”
However, it became clear that the various women saw the situation differently. In her confessional, Mayci said, “Demi basically was willing for Jessi to be off the show so she could kind of get paid more.” Taylor revealed, “Jessi comes out and says, ‘Actually, I’m not gonna walk, so you can walk to me, but I’m not.'”
“For me, I just said in my head, ‘I don’t want money to come between all of us,’ and I know I was on another way of thinking,” Jessi then said. However, Taylor proceeded to confront Jessi. “Demi got on a whole other call with #MomTok,” she said. “Demi’s like, ‘Yeah, f*** Jessi at this point. Let’s push her to the side.’ She was talking mad s***.”
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time a #MomTok member was nearly kicked out of the group. In Season 2, viewers saw a different side of Whitney compared to the previous season. Whitney had been portrayed as the villain in Season 1, but was showing a kinder side in Season 2. Mikayla said she thought Whitney was just trying to make herself look good during an appearance on The Squeeze podcast.
“I think that’s something that I’ve seen with her is that she comes back when it’s convenient for her,” Mikayla said. “So, I think for me and, like, my own personal growth I was like it’s OK for me to be like, ‘I’m not letting you take any of the power. I’m keeping the power over here and you can do whatever you want and be on your way.’”
Taylor Accused Demi Of Saying She Deserved Bigger Brand Deals Than The Other Women
Jessi then decided to answer the question she picked from the truth box. She told the ladies, “I also know I’m in a situation that’s different than everyone.” Mikayla then quipped, “I think if I was a millionaire, I wouldn’t care either.” Demi was then seen in a confessional where she expressed her thoughts. She explained her side of things by saying, “Jessi sits on an empire of this hair business and does really well financially, so it felt a little selfish to me.”
“The emotions were high, and I understood that she felt that way,” Jessi told the rest of the group. “I also don’t think, and I could be wrong, that it was her saying, ‘Specifically kick off Jessi and just give me a higher paycheck.'”
Taylor then tells viewers that the move gave her “a bad taste in my mouth,” especially since it was Jessi’s “best friend.” But it didn’t end there. The topic was brought up again that night at dinner. Whitney mentioned it once again when she asked Demi to be more specific about what actually happened.
“It was a call with our lawyers and managers,” Jessi said. “I literally got on and I heard Bret and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, I don’t want you speaking for me.'”
“We had had a mutual understanding that we were going to come in fighting for everything as a united front, and we felt like she dogged us and went around us like, ‘I’m going to get whatever I want,'” Demi then said. “So we were like, at that point, ‘Okay, f*** it, we’re going to do the same thing.'”
Taylor chimed in and said she thought they “deserve to fight for more,” and Whitney replied, “Yeah, but not to [fight to] kick people out.” Taylor then reveals that several people told her that Demi said she “deserves bigger brand deals” than the rest of #MomTok. Demi, however, said those words never passed her lips. Jessi then agreed with Taylor, telling Demi that she heard people saying the same thing. Whitney even backed this accusation up as well.
“It’s not a shock that I was a fan favorite,” Demi then said. “I feel like I’m an asset. I should fight for more.”
This wasn’t the start of Demi and Taylor’s problems. Taylor made headlines after she made an appearance at the 2024 Country Music Awards. In a post to her Instagram Stories following her appearance at the award show, Taylor wrote, “Not a single one of my girls from MomTok said anything on my CMA post, such a big night for me. Awkward.”
She followed that up with a post calling out Demi, saying, “Since Demi is the most triggered by it, it’s interesting because she phone called me the other day saying, ‘I feel like you don’t really support me on social media.’ So it’s weird that it matters when it comes to her but when it comes to me, it shouldn’t be a big deal and they don’t have to bow down to me.”
She continued, “Sure, you don’t have to like my stuff, that’s fine, again, now-a-days it’s your message without saying a message, and we can, I think all agree. For all the girls telling me I should have handled this differently and offline as they’re literally eating me alive online right now, maybe they feel justified but don’t come at me if you’re gonna do the exact same thing.”
“Demi wasn’t even originally going to be cast for the show. Do you really think you’re the star? Nah, I don’t agree with that,” Taylor said in a confessional later in the episode. “In what world are you putting yourself on this pedestal? What makes you that person? Yes, #MomTok is a business, but it’s a lot more than that. It’s a sisterhood. It’s a support system. However, I think Demi has [let] the money side and greed go to her head so that comes first and everyone can fend for themselves, and that, to me, is not a genuine friendship at all.”
Jen Revealed Her Mental Health Struggles During The Reunion Special
But Taylor wasn’t finished in her confessional. She made sure to tell Demi what she needed to tell her in person. She said to her, “No offense, but you would have never had this opportunity without me.” “No, I understand that,” Demi responded. Taylor then said she was the reason for it and was “the most vulnerable” out of everyone. She also said this had a negative effect on her mental health.
“I think some people [who] aren’t as open and aren’t as vulnerable sharing their actual s*** that’s going on behind closed doors [don’t] deserve to be paid more, because they’re not being vulnerable,” she explained. “They’re only being surfaced based at a dinner table ‘creating drama.’ I’m the one that’s actually struggling because I’m open to the f****** world. If anyone has the right to get paid the most, it’s me, and I’ve never asked for that, ever.”
Demi finally said, “Where I went wrong was being willing to knock her off, but that came from a place of us being in a bad place.” Demi initially said she didn’t want anyone kicked out of #MomTok. However, when Taylor called Demi out after her CMA appearance, Demi changed her tune. During this time, Demi described Taylor’s activity on social media as a “liability.”
This wouldn’t be the last time a MomTok member opened up about mental health struggles. In the Season 2 reunion special, Jen Affleck talked about her battle with prenatal depression. The problem was so intense that she had to take some time away from filming the series during the second season. This was a highlight of the reunion and the good news is that Jen said she is doing much better now.
“I dealt with something that a lot of pregnant women deal with, which is prenatal depression. And unfortunately, I had to go through that during what was also one of the hardest seasons of my life,” Jen said.
“Looking back and thinking about all of season 2, to be honest, it’s a bit of a blur just because I was barely surviving,” she continued. “And I dealt with a lot of suicide ideation. It’s really hard to talk about, but that was definitely one of the hardest times of life, and I felt like I couldn’t turn to anyone.”
While on the set of a brand shoot with Taylor later in the episode, Layla tells her that Demi has some points that are valid, but she’s going way too far. She also accuses Demi of asking her how much money they were making for the shoot the two of them were in the middle of. “I didn’t text her back because I feel like we’ve all learned our lesson with Demi, when it comes to money, you don’t bring it up because she doesn’t handle it really well,” Layla said.
While at the “Saints and Sinners” party, Demi and Taylor are not in a good place with one another. Taylor then tells viewers in a confessional that she believes Demi no longer has a grasp on the purpose of #MomTok.
“#MomTok is supposed to be sisterhood and support and genuine friendships,” she said. “However, I think Demi has let the money side and greed go to her head. Yes, #MomTok is a business, but its much more than that. I’m not scared of her, but she’s a scary girl, if that makes sense. And we all need to be aware.”
