Farmer Wants a Wife is everyone’s favorite country dating show, and season 3 is set to unveil a new twist that has everyone shaking in their cowboy boots — the Farmer’s moms are coming to town. The unique twist put the four farmers — Matt Warren, Jay Woods, John Sansone, and Colton Hendricks — in a tough spot as they reassess their romantic connections with their mothers’ involvement.

What Is the New Twist on ‘Farmer Wants a Wife’?

Farmer Wants a Wife host Kimberly Williams-Paisley revealed that she asked for help from the farmer’s mothers in a teaser for the April 24, 2025, episode shared by Swoon.

“The farmers are about to face a twist in their search for the one,” she said in a voiceover as the farmers checked their mailbox. “Which their moms have been helping me with.”

Farmer Colton Hendricks read the letter, prefacing to his contestants that they “weren’t gonna like it.”

“Dear Colton, at the start of all this, you brought five beautiful ladies you could see a future with back to your farm,” the Arkansas native read. “And the lady you end up with, may very well be in the room with you right now. But to give you every chance of finding true love, I’ve also asked for your mom’s help.”

The moms were asked to consider a different group of women and select a lady they believed would be a good match for their son.

“That lady is eager to meet you and if you both see potential, you can invite her back to the farm,” the letter concluded. “You should consider the connections you have with the other ladies and if you don’t feel one is as strong anymore, you should send her home tonight.”

The contestants weren’t exactly thrilled by the twist, which only added more competition to life on the farm.

How Did the Farmers Feel About the New Twist to the Dating Show?

Farmer Matt Warren knew the twist would only bring more confusion as he held his mom’s opinion in high regard.

“Just when I thought this couldn’t get any harder, I’ve got these great girls and now, there’s the potential to meet someone new,” he admitted to the cameras. “If my mom picked her, I trust her, so that means there’s good potential for someone going home.”

‘Farmer Wants a Wife’ Has a Surprisingly High Success Rate

The twist will hopefully contribute to the show’s high success rate of happy couples. Farmer Wants a Wife originally premiered in the U.K. in 2001. Since then, the format has been adapted in over 30 countries and has reportedly resulted in over 200 marriages and more than 500 children worldwide as of February 2024, according to Today.

The U.S. versions have resulted in nine marriages, 10 serious relationships and 21 kids, according to Pedestrian.

However, the Australian edition is widely considered one of the most successful iterations of the series, leading to 11 marriages and 28 children, The Australian Women’s Weekly reported in March 2025.

Fans will have to tune into Farmer Wants a Wife to find out if mother really does know best.

Farmer Wants a Wife airs Thursdays on Fox at 9 p.m. ET.
