The reason why Howard Stern has become incredibly rich is because he has fans who care about things like what happened to his former sidekick Artie Lange. Some fans love Howard because he gets stars to admit stunning things, like when Donald Trump spoke about his prenup and when Matt Lauer admitted his crush on Katie Couric. Howard has also been edgy enough to be beaten up for his comments, get threatened by Dolly Parton, and have Michael Jackson ask him to lead a protest.
After one of Howard Stern’s celebrity friends asked him for a favor, his edgy side came out again. Howard was so furious he went on a lengthy rant after his speech honoring his famous friend was significantly cut.
Howard Stern Was Furious After His Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Speech Was Cut
Every year, a small class of legendary performers is inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As a result, it is widely considered to be a huge honor to be chosen for induction.
While it isn’t as big of an honor, it is also a big deal to be chosen to induct someone into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2018, Howard Stern received that honor when he was chosen to induct Bon Jovi.
Instead of feeling happy in the days following that hallowed event, however, Howard was outraged. As he explained during an episode of “The Howard Stern Show,” Howard was furious that part of his induction speech was cut when it was broadcast.
During Howard’s radio career, he has spent endless hours speaking to his audience.
Before inducting Bon Jovi into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Howard Stern received a similar honor. According to
The Radio Hall of Fame’s website
, Howard Stern was inducted in 2012.
As a result, it may seem surprising that Howard was so upset that some of his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech was cut.
In May 2018, NJ.com published an article about the rant Howard went on about his Hall of Fame speech getting cut.
When Bon Jovi was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, they received that honor alongside four other acts. In 2018, The Cars, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, and Nina Simone were all also inducted in 2018.
As that article revealed, there was a very specific reason why Howard was so mad after his speech was cut. As Howard explained at the time, he spent hours crafting the speech he delivered and each part of it was included for a reason.
I really crafted my words, I wanted to make people laugh. I wanted to have a good time. I really crafted the thing.
Howard then expressed outrage at the idea that some producer would make the decision to cut parts of his speech.
“So some editor could determine if I was funny in places? They were probably like, ‘Hey, that’s a funny joke, but we gotta cut somewhere.’ No you don’t have to cut somewhere!”
After a member of his team suggested that they cut roughly three minutes of his speech, Howard claimed that they cut roughly 15 minutes of his speech. Howard then ranted about the kind of people who decide what to cut from the speech.
“Oh yeah, trust me there was another 15 minutes … I understand they have to edit it down… I want to know the comedy genius… I’ve sat in on these sessions. It’s kind of like, ‘Yeah, cut that!’ It’s like a butcher shop. ‘Cut the fat off!’ It’s like, ‘Yeah, well we gotta cut something.’ No, you don’t! If something’s good, you don’t cut it!”
During Howard’s rant about the situation, he spoke about how badly The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame wanted him to give a speech. According to NJ.com‘s summary of Howard’s statements, he claimed that they flew him on a private jet so he could induct Bon Jovi.
While unleashing expletives, Howard expressed how mad he was that he was flown out like that only to have part of his speech cut.
“You can’t fly me to f****** Cleveland and ask me to make a speech and then edit the s*** out of me. I wasn’t there talking about my career. I spent a lot of time on that, and they spent three minutes deciding what should be in and out…They completely…gutted me. Like a rotting fish, which I am. That’s how I feel inside.”
Howard Stern Wasn’t The Only One Angry At The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
As has already been stated in this article, Howard Stern inducted Bon Jovi into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That is interesting, since before Howard was angry, Jon Bon Jovi expressed how much he resented how The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame treated his band.
In December 2017, Jon Bon Jovi spoke to The New York Times about being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the 2018 class.

When asked about the honor, Jon began by expressing how thankful he was. However, Jon quickly transitioned to complain that Bon Jovi hadn’t been inducted earlier.
“Well. I mean … we’re very happy about it. And um, you know. It’s great. I really want to say it’s about time.”
As a part of The New York Times’ article, they revealed that they removed an expletive from Jon’s quote.
Once Jon appeared onstage to give his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech, as can be seen on YouTube, his frustrations were still on display. Early on in his speech, Jon told the crowd that he’d previously considered giving an angry acceptance speech.
“I’ve been writing this speech since I first strummed a broom and sang it from the top of the stairs of my childhood home. I’ve actually written it many ways, many times. Some days, I write the thank you speech. Other days, I write the f*** you speech.”
While Jon’s frustrations may seem surprising, they make sense. According to an August 2024 Yahoo! Entertainment article that republished reporting from Business Insider, Bon Jovi is the 41st best-selling music act of all-time. Despite that, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame only included Bon Jovi on the list of nominated artists list twice, in 2008 and 2018. Considering how accomplished Bon Jovi is, not even being nominated between 2009 and 2017 must have felt like a slap in the face.
