It seems Hugh Hefner set a strict ban for his family with his inheritance that needed to be followed. When someone who has amassed a fortune, and/or certain assets has passed, their remaining family members will likely either already know or might wonder what will happen to their loved one’s inheritance, especially if there isn’t a will. Some people can have surprises in their wills, and other times families might fight over someone’s inheritance in court.
Sometimes people will include certain instructions in their will for their heirs. When Hugh Hefner passed away, he left certain conditions for those inheriting what he left them to follow. It seems Hefner set some rules for his family members to follow. Hugh Hefner seems to have set a strict ban for his family with his inheritance that needed to be followed.
What Strict Ban Did Hugh Hefner Set For His Family?
There are several celebrities who have had troubled relationships with their family members. Some have been able to make peace and overcome certain obstacles, however others are unable to resolve their differences.
When a celebrity passes away, if a will is left, it will usually include family members and maybe others close to them. However, some family members might not be included. There also might be certain conditions in the will in order for those included to inherit.
According to ET, documents in Hugh Hefner’s trust sets a certain ban on those who are included in the trust. The documents mention that members of his family included in his inheritance could be banned from receiving anything.
Beneficiaries included in his trust could be removed “if any beneficiaries frequently uses or consumes any illegal substances and is dependent on the drug or chemical substance”.
According to Hefner’s trust, “If the trustees reasonably believe that a beneficiary of any trust routinely or frequently uses or consumes any illegal substance so as to be physically or psychologically dependent upon that substance, or is clinically dependent upon the use or consumption of alcohol or any other legal drug or chemical substance that is not prescribed by a board certified medical doctor or psychiatrist in a current program of treatment supervised by such doctor or psychiatrist…”
The document continues, “…and if the Trustees reasonably believe that as a result the beneficiary is unable to care for himself or herself, or is unable to manage his or her financial affairs, all mandatory distributions to the beneficiary, all the beneficiary’s withdrawal rights, and all of the beneficiary’s rights to participate in decisions concerning the removal and appointment of Trustees will be suspended.”
Why Did Hugh Hefner Include The Ban?
When someone passes away, they will most likely leave everything they have to those closest to them. This might not always include certain family members, because some celebrities might not have the best relationships with certain members of their family.
However, those celebrities who do leave a will behind, might have some sort of instructions included with their last wishes. This could especially apply to those who might be inheriting a large amount from their estates.
When Hugh Hefner passed away, he put a ban on family members receiving his inheritance that needed to be followed. Maybe Hefner wanted to try to prevent members of his family from becoming dependent on drugs and alcohol.

According to Vanity Fair, Hefner discussed his feelings about the substances in an interview in the mid-80s with Interview magazine.
He stated, “I’ve hated cocaine from the very outset. I’ve seen cocaine as a very, very hurtful drug…What I have to say about alcohol and tobacco is that it kills people…I smoked a pipe myself without inhaling until I had the stroke in March. And I don’t smoke now.”
Continuing, Hefner added, “We all have a tendency to not deal with our own mortality. And sometimes it takes a tap on the shoulder.”
According to some sources, Hefner knew about drugs being used at the Playboy Mansion. According to Insider, a former Playmate claimed, “Hef pretended he wasn’t involved in any drug use at the mansion, but that was just a lie.”

Originally asking for $200 million, Hefner sold the Playboy Mansion to Daren Metropoulos for $100 million. After selling it, Hefner was able to continue living there until he passed away.
According to the New York Post, there were certain conditions with the sale. For example, “The sale of the house guaranteed Metropoulos would not be able to make changes to the main structure of the estate.”
According to The Sun, Metropoulos stated, “As Mr. Hefner was aware, I plan to meticulously refurbish the property with the highest quality and standards in mind.”
