Insiders balk at Met Gala's $50k-per-person ticket prices

The gilded invites for the Met Gala have gone out to an elite few, but we hear some are opting out of this year’s event hosted by Vogue editor, Anna Wintour.

We hear some Metropolitan Museum of Art donors are passing on the gala this year — as the ticket price has been raised from $30,000 to $50,000 per person, according to sources.

“These people are already donating so much, to then ask for that amount is a lot,” says a source.

But another source huffed, “For every person that decides not to go, 20 people will line up behind them and beg to come.”

Whether they’d be the right people in the eyes of Wintour is another story.

“Will Anna want those people? Maybe, maybe not,” says the source.

We hear some fashion designer may be passing as well — as they don’t want to have to adhere to this year’s theme of “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which is more specific than past Met Gala themes, such as “Camp,” “In America,” “Heavenly Bodies” and “Punk.”

Lagerfeld, who passed in 2019, oversaw Balmain, Patou, Chloé and Fendi — but was best known for his work for Chanel.

“Chanel themes are so iconic,” says the source. “Other brands have their own identity. What are they going to do?”

But another source says, “No one seems that concerned,” and mentioned that designers can just throw together, “something black and white and sparkly.”

Lagerfeld was also known for his trademark personal look, of course, with his white hair in a ponytail, shades, a suit jacket and fingerless gloves. The NY Times has speculated that some designers may even riff on his beloved, highly pampered cat, Choupette.

The source adds that if a designer RSVPs no to the Met Gala, they stand the chance of missing out in the future.

“If you miss one, you might not be invited back,” says the source.

Who will — or won’t — attend fashion’s biggest night is always a source of speculation. Sources told Page Six previously that Wintour is was cracking down on the list this year.

We reported that the Kardashian family might not make the cut — but later heard that Kim Kardashian will indeed be at the gala.

This year’s event hosts include Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer.

Reps for Vogue did not respond to a request for comment.
