In 2022, Elon Musk embarked on a mission to lose weight, successfully dropping 30 pounds over several months. While he made some lifestyle adjustments to facilitate this transformation, Musk later disclosed that year that he had turned to GLP-1 medications to aid his efforts. These drugs played a significant role in helping him achieve and maintain his new physique.

However, the rapid weight loss wasn’t without its downsides. Comparing photos from 2021 and 2025, it’s evident that the Tesla and SpaceX CEO exhibits signs of what’s known as “Ozempic face.” His cheeks have developed a sunken appearance, a common effect of the rapid weight loss associated with these medications. Furthermore, his eyes now seem more recessed, and the skin around his mouth has loosened somewhat. Despite these changes, Musk appears content with his leaner look.

In December 2024, Musk posted a photo of himself prepared for the Christmas season, showcasing his weight loss. He humorously captioned the image “Ozempic Santa” in a tweet. However, he later clarified that his caption wasn’t entirely precise, admitting he had some unpleasant experiences with Ozempic. He humorously noted it made him “fart & burp like Barney from the Simpson’s,” as he explained in another tweet. In yet another tweet, he joked that “Mounjaro Santa just doesn’t have the same ring to it.” Despite these hiccups, Musk remains proud of his progress.

In December 2024, Musk shared a photo of himself ready for Christmas to show off his weight loss. “Ozempic Santa,” he captioned the tweet. However, he went on to reveal that his caption wasn’t entirely accurate, as he was among the high-profile figure who had bad experiences with Ozempic. “[It] made me fart & burp like Barney from the Simpson’s,” he tweeted, explaining in another tweet that Mounjaro Santa just “doesn’t have the same ring to it.” Musk seems proud, and that’s what matters.

Musk aimed to incorporate a morning workout into his schedule to boost his fitness further. It’s unclear if he managed to fit exercise into his hectic routine, but he did make some dietary adjustments. “I’ve been fasting periodically & feel healthier,” he shared in an August 2022 tweet. He also revealed that he used the intermittent fasting app, Zero, to keep himself disciplined.

Elon Musk blamed previous weight gain on workaholic lifestyle

Remarkably, Musk’s weight loss seemingly hasn’t curtailed his demanding work habits. “Back to working 7 days a week and sleeping in the office if my little kids are away,” he tweeted in July 2025. Although he continues to work tirelessly, he acknowledges the drawbacks of such a schedule. In an accompanying video, he confessed, “It hurts my brain and my heart,” highlighting the toll of his relentless pace.

Musk wanted to implement a morning workout routine to help him get in better shape. It’s unclear whether he found a way to include exercise into his busy routine, but he made dietary changes. “I’ve been fasting periodically & feel healthier,” he tweeted in August 2022. He also shared he used the intermittent fasting app, Zero, to help him stay on track.

Musk was able to lose weight without apparently putting an end to his workaholic ways. “Back to working 7 days a week and sleeping in the office if my little kids are away,” he tweeted in July 2025. That doesn’t mean he thinks working all the time is healthy. In fact, he accompanied his tweet with a video in which he discussed the effects of his schedule. “It hurts my brain and my heart,” he said.
