Following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, fans might be wondering what might happen on the future of the X-men franchise. After the deal was finalized in 2019, there were some hints of cameos here and there, but there’s really no confirmation so far.
One of the fan favorites when it comes to casting is Giancarlo Esposito. The 64-year-old actor is no stranger to franchises, and he just recently portrayed the role of Moff Gideo in The Mandalorian. Giancarlo Esposito Detailed How He Portrays Bad Characters
After playing iconic roles as Gus Fring and Moff Gideo, the actor has now become a household name. He’s a pretty established villain in the entertainment industry and the veteran actor didn’t shy away and shared the formula in creating such unforgettable bad guys. The actor believes that to be an effective villain, one has to utilize their facial expression, especially the eyes.
When asked by a fan at the Rose City Comic Con, the actor pretty much spilled how he deals with portraying bad guys:
“I think it’s my stillness. Again, I relate back to stillness (pauses). Hear that (pauses)? Yeah, that’s really great. No, it’s nothing. When do we go to nothing? If I stop my chatter and the chatter of my mind, I hear the machinery behind the stage. You probably can’t hear that ’cause you’re back over there. But you kind of hear the hum of the universe. And I think what makes my villains a little more progressive and a little frightening is that I leave space, space for nothing.”
Esposito also detailed the motivation behind his chilling stillness, “Your parents did it to you, maybe, I don’t know how old you are, when you did something wrong, they just look at you. Well that’s what makes my characters terrorizing. Also, I take my brain away so I don’t allow you to know what I’m thinking, right. I don’t want you to know what I’m thinking. And that can be frightening.”

Esposito’s name often comes up whenever casting rumors of different comic book film adaptation arise. The three-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee has declared his admiration for the works of Marvel Studios in the past and hopes to join the franchise. And the actor has been urging the fans to make it happen.
During his interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor said, “Everything Marvel creates is fantastic. I’m flattered that readers can picture me as a member of this cast and have suggested other roles for me, including Magneto and DC’s Dr Freeze. And the most difficult request comes from Charles Xavier”
He added “But listen, I want the nice guy role. Charles possesses a high level of intelligence. He performs admirably. But I think I and Marvel have a shot of working out. For my part, I adore their work. It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for original thought. Who knows what will happen then? Never stop sharing your ideas with the world.”
It might take some time for the actor to actually land a part on the franchise since planning Marvel films take years.
Giancarlo Esposito’s Unusual Approach Might Actually Work
Disney is known to be influenced by fan-casting, so this might actually work for Esposito, although this is still pretty much an unusual approach.
His unusual approach has been also used by several actors before, including Samuel L. Jackson for the role of Nick Fury. It’s also widely known that the reason John Krasinski landed the role of Reed Richards on the film Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness was because Jim Halpert of The Office is a popular choice in fan casting.
Krasinski’s casting is not the only case of Marvel listening to the fans. Ryan Reynolds is also known as someone who campaigned to play the titular role in Deadpool. Fans pretty much helped the actor in making his dream a reality. Reynolds finally got the chance to play Deadpool through the X-Men Origins: Wolverine and soon landed his own Deadpool franchise.
Due to this, some fans are already creating some fake posters where Esposito is seen as Professor X. The fans have massive influence on franchises these days and with their help, he might land his dream Marvel role. The actor has proven his acting skills in the industry, so it’s not like his skills wouldn’t be factored in his casting.
