Megan Thee Stallion’s career has been on fire, thanks largely in part to her incredibly supportive fan base and her music making its way around popular social media platform TikTok. Originally born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, the Houston native began releasing music through SoundClound in 2016. The rapper, who had already given herself the stage name Megan Thee Stallion, quickly began to pick up traction thanks to her unique lyricism and 2017 single Last Week in HTx, which helped her get millions of views on YouTube. Additionally, she released a rework of XXXTentacion’s Look at Me! called Stalli (Freestyle).
Megan Thee Stallion also auditioned to be a cast member of Love & Hip Hop: Houston around this time, but the project was shelved indefinitely. She wouldn’t have to wait too much longer for her moment in the sun, however, as the rapper’s popularity picked up traction, she quickly became a household name.
Megan Thee Stallion Goes By Many Other Names
While Megan Thee Stallion is her main stage name, there are other things the bombshell rapper has been and continues to be, called throughout her career, starting as far back as 2018, when she was signed to 1501 Certified Entertainment.
The independent record label was run by former baseball players Carl Crawford and T. Farris and had the privilege of calling Megan the first female rapper they had ever signed to the label.
That same year, Megan released a 10-song extended play called Tina Snow, who she has described as her alter ego.
Tina Snow is the counterpart to Tony Snow, the alter ego of southern artist Pimp C, who Megan admits is her favorite rapper. Megan describes how listening to Pimp C made her “feel so cool and so laid back” that she turns herself into this Tina Snow character.
Tina Snow as an alter ego was the inspiration behind the album she released under the same name, which the rapper describes as confident and the “more pimp-ish” side of her, even describing the alter ego as a more raw version of herself who “just don’t give a d***.”
Fans of Megan Thee Stallion know that she also goes by Htown Hottie, Suga, and Hot Girl Meg, each with their own unique persona and backstory. Suga is the rapper’s more sensitive, sweet, and vulnerable side.
While Htown Hottie is just a nickname the artist picked for herself, Hot Girl Meg is described as “the party girl, the college girl, she likes to turn up, she likes to have fun”, while Megan is the good girl that goes to school and gets good grades.
Stallion Has Several Meanings Floating Around The Internet
Even Megan’s stage name has its own, interesting origin story that stems as far back as her teen years. Megan said she was always called a Stallion as a teenager and decided to just roll with the name, initially using it as just a social media handle before letting it stick with her.
Megan went on to explain that her body type has been the same since she was around 15 or 16 and that older guys would always tell her that she is a stallion.

“Everybody pretty much took it and ran with it, and then I put it up as my main name on Twitter, and ever since then, everybody’s just been calling me Stallion.”
Deeper digging into the world Stallion shows that it has several other meanings, and few of which may not have been appropriate for a teenage girl to have at the time, especially given to her by older guys.
Urban Dictionary does show Megan Thee Stallion’s meaning of the word, that is a woman that is “tall and fine” or even a curvy woman, and that its origins also hail from Texas, where she is from.
Additional definitions of the word include an untamable, wild woman, and even some descriptions that are sexual in nature and not appropriate for a teenager to have used to describe her.
The word stallion has even been used to describe highly sexually active men with many partners, regardless of relationship status.
Redditors Appear Confused Over Her Use Of The Word Thee In Her Stage Name
The English language, and all languages for that matter, are constantly evolving. Words can take on other meanings or even be replaced entirely with something new instead. The use of the word “thee” in Megan Thee Stallion’s name appears to be an artistic choice.
Reddit’s users were quick to point out that while Megan Thee Stallion may have explained the origins of the “stallion” portion of her name, she did not exactly get into detail about why she went with the phrase Thee instead of The for her name, with some even questioning if it was a typo on her behalf that she just never corrected.
According to Urban Dictionary, the word “thee” is used when “it’s the official one of something, and that its ‘thee’ original, rather than the original. It’s a way of saying something is unique and unlike anything else.”
And this certainly makes sense when applied to the 5’10” beauty of a rapper. No one looks like her, no one sounds like her, and no one acts like her, making her thee genuine, thee one, thee only, Megan Thee Stallion.
