Tragedy has touched the world of ITV’s popular series, Inside The Ritz, with the passing of one of its beloved stars, announced by the program on August 10. Fans and colleagues alike mourn the loss of Michael De Cozar, the esteemed Head Hall Porter of The Ritz.
The show took to Instagram to express their heartfelt condolences, sharing an emotional tribute to their cherished colleague. “With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and Head Hall Porter, Michael De Cozar,” they wrote. “For an incredible 53 years, Michael dedicated himself to The Ritz London, becoming a cherished and enduring presence for countless staff and guests over the decades.”
The tribute continued, emphasizing the deep gratitude felt for Michael’s unwavering commitment and extraordinary service. “Michael’s dedication, loyalty, and warmth were unparalleled, and his kindness touched everyone privileged to work alongside him, as well as the numerous guests who had the joy of encountering him.”
The message concluded with a personal sentiment: “Our thoughts are with Michael’s family and loved ones during this challenging time.”
Echoing the sorrow felt across the hospitality industry, The Society of the Golden Keys of Great Britain & the Commonwealth also honored Michael’s memory. Their LinkedIn post read: “With profound sadness, we remember our dear friend and colleague, Michael De Cozar, Head Concierge of The Ritz London, whose legacy will continue to inspire.”
“Michael was quite simply one of the great figures of British hospitality. He joined The Ritz in July 1973, aged just sixteen, beginning as a page boy after first discovering the world of hospitality alongside his father, Salvador. At only twenty four, Michael became the youngest Head Concierge in the history of The Ritz and would go on to devote an extraordinary fifty three years of his life to the hotel, its guests and our profession.

Earlier this year, his extraordinary contribution to our profession was recognised by The Society of the Golden Keys of Great Britain & the Commonwealth with Honorary Life Membership, one of the highest recognitions our Society can bestow.”
Inside the Ritz took a look at how one of the most traditional hotels in the world stands out from the rest. The prestigious accommodation opened its doors and allowed viewers to peek inside and see its inner workings.
Famous faces including Richard E Grant, Anna Wintour and Mo Salah visited the hotel as fans found out how they prepare their famous Afternoon Tea.
The series, which aired back in 2019, was made up of four episodes. Episode one gave viewers a glimpse of how the hotel is operated and what makes it one of the best hotels in the world.
The second show followed follow executive chef John Williams as he prepared to launch the first ever cookbook revealing The Ritz’s most famous recipes.
The third episode, the Ritz hosted a glitzy dinner dance at the establishment and the final instalment saw executive chef John Williams will introduce a new home-reared ingredient to the famous menu.
