Meghan Markle’s ‘runny’ apricot spread slammed by jam expert Donna Collins: ‘There’s no excuse for this’

Jam guru Donna Collins savagely slammed Meghan Markle’s “As Ever” apricot spread after it quickly sold out online.

“It’s a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails,” the Jelly Queens owner said, per the Daily Mail.

“In the jam industry a spread is what we call something that didn’t work. It can have the best ingredients, but if I had a jam that was too runny, I’d slap a label on it and call it a spread. There’s no excuse for this. It should be perfect.”

Collins also called out Markle’s use of “conventionally grown apricots, which will have used pesticides.”

“And why is she using pectin, which is a gelling agent, unless it’s because her spread was too runny? Most spreads don’t use pectin,” the “MasterChef” alum concluded.

The Duchess of Sussex’s spread, which was released on Friday in an individual jar ($9) and keepsake packaging ($14), sold out in minutes.

Collins, however, suggested that Markle’s success was due to her “only [making] a small batch.”

“I don’t know who’s making her spread, but we all know it’s not Meghan,” she alleged. “It sounds like they really don’t know what they are doing.”

Page Six has reached out to Collins and a rep for the “Suits” alum for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Markle, 43, first announced her lifestyle company in March 2024 and teased that she would be selling fresh jam the following month.

At the time, the actress was sending 50 of the rustic jars to close friends as gifts.

In April 2024, an insider told Page Six that Markle worked on her business venture for “over a year” and “it’s all the things that are close to her heart.”

Markle, however, turned the jam into a spread when she released the product in April 2025.

It immediately sold out.

This year, the businesswoman has faced additional criticism about her other endeavors, including the first season of her new Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan.”

She also announced her “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast after her “Archetypes” series was canceled in 2023.
