Before succumbing to cancer this past February, James Van Der Beek expressed his support for his ex-wife Heather McComb as she entered a new chapter by marrying Scott Michael Campbell on May 30.
In an exclusive chat with Us Weekly on Tuesday, McComb shared that she discussed her upcoming wedding plans with Van Der Beek during their heartfelt final conversation.
“James and his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, were both aware of my marriage to Scott,” McComb shared with the publication. “Their reaction was one of genuine love, support, and excitement.”
McComb, who was married to James from 2003 to 2010, cherished the approval she received from him before taking her vows once more, describing it as a sentiment she would forever treasure.
The 49-year-old further admired the way the “Varsity Blues” actor extended his love to those around him, particularly toward Kimberly and their six children.
“I know that James would want me to celebrate our love, just like he celebrated the love that he had for Kimberly, which was so beautiful,” she said.
McComb felt “all the people [she and Campbell] lost” at their ceremony last month.
“I know we had a lot of people up in heaven shining on us that day,” she recalled. “It was magical in the sense that we saw a double rainbow, two ladybugs and two white doves… We honor everybody who wasn’t there that day.”
