This year’s Met Gala theme proved quite emotional for some stars walking the carpet as they paid tribute to the late Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who tragically died in 2019 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Karl worked in the fashion industry for over six decades, and right up until his death, giving the A-list attendees an impressive catalogue from which they could draw inspiration.
However, a few attendees like Nicole Kidman left viewers desperately wanting more.
Although the Moulin Rouge star undoubtedly paid homage to the late designer, wearing the same dress he had designed for her 2004 ad campaign with Chanel, the actress had made no additions or alterations to elevate the gown from advert to Met Gala-worthy attire.
Other guests like Ice Spice, Dua Lipa, Nicola Peltz Beckham unfortunately also failed to deliver on fashion’s biggest night.

Additionally, Bradley Cooper and Nick Jonas led the usual parade of disillusioned stars dressed in plain black and white suits for the lavish occassion while Rami Malek skipped the blazer altogether, wearing just a white shirt and black trousers.
Some viewers were taken aback at the unexpected cat-related couture on the red carpet, albeit these looks were more on-theme considering Karl’s well-known fondness for his own feline Choupette.
Jared Leto had to be guided across the carpet as he cosplayed Choupette, although he soon changed out of the mascot-esque ensemble in favour of an all-black co-ord with a bedazzled cape.

Doja Cat took a more glamorous approach to the feline concept with a cat-eared sparkling gown and facial prosthetics reminiscent of the ill-fated 2019 film Cats.
Florence Pugh, Ariana DeBose and Janelle Monae demanded attention in their statement gowns, but seemingly not for the right reasons.
The Black Widow sported an elegant and shapely white dress with a quaint black bow, tying into the theme with Karl’s known affinity for black and white colour palettes, but Florence’s shaved head and foot-long headpiece proved to be a heavy distraction.
Ariana DeBose wore a bizarre gown in an eye-catching shade of canary-yellow with green textured backpiece and grey fur trim.
Lastly, Janelle Monae managed three outfits for the evening, the first of which earned her top place in many worst-dressed lists.
The Glass Onion star appeared in platform black and white boots, sparkling black underwear and suspenders underneath seven hoops of sheer material as she spun on the red carpet, occasionally lifting the hoops above her head.
The actress later reappeared in an oversized black and white jacket which descended over all of the hoops and seemed surprisingly reminiscent of Karl’s creations.
Once inside Janelle changed into a pleated black skirt and white blazer with a cat-shaped handbag in a stylish co-ord that likely would’ve earned her a spot on the best-dressed lists if she had worn it on the red carpet.
