During the conversation, Jared also addressed the controversy surrounding leaked messages about his tumultuous relationship with Britani Bateman, 54, describing her as “damaged” and “unstable.” The 55-year-old shared his discomfort with filming, his reputation as the show’s “villain,” and how he found himself part of the reality series.
“I take pride in being an Osmond, but my presence on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has stirred some controversy. My family hasn’t been thrilled about it,” Jared admitted on the December 31 episode of The Viall Files. “They’ve all questioned my decision, asking, ‘What are you doing on this show?’ They are wonderful, kind-hearted people, but they genuinely don’t understand my choice.”
Jared noted that his uncle Donny was among those who reached out, expressing his surprise with a simple, “What the heck?”
One family member in particular who reached out was Jared’s uncle, Donny, who he said “kind of” gave him the, “What the f*ck?”
“It wasn’t so direct. It was more just like, ‘You okay?’ And he made a statement in the press, like saying, ‘I don’t know what Jared’s doing,’ essentially, ‘I don’t like it, but he’s a big boy. he gets to decide what he wants to do,’” Jared recalled.
Moving on to the leaked DMs he sent to someone about Britani, Jared said the subject “couldn’t be more annoying.”
“I freaking hate this subject … She’s a friend. She played it up like she was a girlfriend. It’s so weird,” he continued of the person the messages were sent to.
Then, after his message regarding Britani creating drama to be relevant was mentioned, Jared admitted there were “so many DMs” that “irritate” him.
“I’m never sending a DM ever again. I’m never going to. I’m done. I will never talk sh*t again. I realize everything has a digital footprint. I had no idea,” he stated.
According to Jared, who confirmed he retracted his claims against Britani, he didn’t realize how much damage was done when the DMs were shared.
“I’ve never done anything like that since. But that was very harsh. You gotta take this anger and this broken heart that I had into perspective, [but] it’s not an excuse,” he noted.
Also on the podcast, Jared said that he “[doesn’t] want to be on” RHOSLC.
“I went on reluctantly. It’s hard. It’s a show that has painted me as the villain … and just the volatility of our relationship on the show and all that kind of thing,” he explained.
He then reflected on how he was cast.
“When Britani got the phone call, I was in the room, and they pulled me into the interview. So I sat there on the sofa and the screen with seven Bravo execs firing questions at both of us,” he shared. “I’d never really watched reality television. I didn’t realize, though, that by signing this waiver, it’d create this tidal wave of not all great things.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season six airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
