On a seemingly ordinary Sunday, November 16, Jason Manford stirred up quite the buzz on Instagram with a post that left fans speculating about a possible addition to his family. The father of six shared a selfie from what appeared to be a hospital waiting room, with an ultrasound image in the background. Accompanying this intriguing photo was the caption: “Here we go again.” Naturally, this prompted a flood of congratulatory messages from his followers, assuming he was expecting another child.
However, the 44-year-old comedian soon found himself clarifying the misunderstanding. The post, which had been intended as a joke, led to a wave of media attention and a news article suggesting he was on the verge of welcoming a newborn. Jason, who underwent a vasectomy in 2023, took to Instagram once more to address the mix-up. He shared a screenshot of the article and explained, “Well, that joke backfired! Sorry folks, it was just a scan for a potential hernia! (All clear btw!). Just bored on a Sunday!”
Jason, who has two daughters with his wife Lucy Dyke, and four children from his previous marriage to Catherine, added a humorous touch to the situation by posting a text exchange with Lucy. In the conversation, he sent her the news article with a simple “Whoops” underneath.
Lucy, a TV producer, responded with her own brand of humor, demanding compensation for the unexpected excitement: “YOU OWE ME CHLOE SHOES AND THE EXPENSIVE ONES.” The exchange provided a lighthearted end to a day of unintended excitement, showcasing the couple’s ability to laugh off a misunderstanding.
His TV producer wife responded: “YOU OWE ME CHLOE SHOES AND THE EXPENSIVE ONES.”
Taking to the caption, the comedian told fans: “This has not gone well! I didn’t even think but that the headline made it look like SOMEONE else got her pregnant! How much are Chloe shoes? Like £40?”
Fans took to the comments with hilarious responses to their exchange, while others shared their relief at Jason’s scan results, as one penned: “Oh! And pleased to hear your scan was ok.” Another echoed: “This all escalated so quickly. Glad to hear your scan was clear too.”
A third said: “Someone stop my laughter please. Oh… It’s not easy being a superstar!”
“Sorry to hear about your boring hospital visit. I was going to congratulate you on your next child, but now you admitted it was a joke. Plus in reality it was a lucky escape as you would have had to part-exchange your People Carrier for a Minibus,” added another follower.
Earlier this month, Jason made his eagerly-awaited return to the stage after being forced to postpone his tour after suffering an appendicitis.
In August, the comedian revealed he was in ill health with a selfie from a hospital bed and explained: “Appendix surgery all went well. I am now in recovery with my Vimto. They serve it in all Manchester hospitals.
“It was a bit of a scary and extremely painful 24 hours, but thankful to our NHS and my incredible nurse mum, who’s a godsend in a health crisis.
“My advice would be to not get appendicitis whilst driving at 70mph on the motorway,” Jason added as he apologised to fans for having to postpone the shows.
