The Valley Season 2, Episode 1 Recap: Welcome To The Chaos
Share and Follow

Former Vanderpump Rules stars Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright have continued to share their lives on the spinoff series The Valley. However, Season 2 took a serious turn when Jax checked himself into a rehab facility following a troubling incident with Brittany. While a few fans praised Jax for seeking professional help, that support quickly faded.

As the season progressed, Jax’s behavior during his inpatient stay was alarming. Brittany shared numerous rage texts from her estranged spouse and alleged that he was spying on her in their formerly shared home. Add on the verbal abuse (which he acknowledged in a recent interview), fans no longer want to tolerate Jax Taylor.

Jax Taylor Apologizes To Fans For His Controversial Behavior On The Valley

During His WWHL Appearance, Jax Taylor Issued Several Apologies

Season 2 of The Valley follows Jax Taylor as he enters a rehab facility to seek professional help for his mental health after an explosive argument with Brittany Cartwright, an altercation that reportedly included a coffee table being thrown. During Jax’s 30-day stay, Brittany took care of their young son, Cruz, and ultimately made the decision to file for divorce just one day before his release.

Despite being in treatment, Jax still had access to his phone, which he used to send Brittany angry, abusive messages. He also tampered with the security system at their once shared home, removing camera coverings to monitor her. Brittany even suspected he had bugged the house to listen in on her private conversations.

Jax’s troubling behavior towards Brittany extended beyond his rehab incident — including leaving her and their son to bounce between multiple Airbnbs while he stayed comfortably in their Valley home. The pattern of actions was ongoing and unsettling.

When Jax appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on June 17th after Episode 10 of The Valley, (the episode in which Jax returns from rehab), he admitted that he was “utterly embarrassed” by his actions and apologized to Brittany for what he had done. In fact, Andy shared that fans were expressing on social media how angry they were that he was even on WWHL.

“First of all, I want to apologize to everybody who is watching this right now. The stuff that is, was shown, is pretty triggering to a lot of people,” Jax began. “You know, I’m watching it back, I watch the episodes now. You watch it back and it’s just like, I’m utterly embarrassed of my actions. Nobody should ever have to deal with the way I acted. Nobody should have to deal with verbal abuse from anybody.”

When Andy asked Jax, “And are you sorry to Brittany?” Jax responded with, “Very sorry to Brittany. It was a very, very, very tough year for both of us.”

During their conversation, Jax revealed that while he had been sober for 201 days, he no longer saw this as his most pressing issue. Instead, he pointed to deeper struggles: “my ego, my anger, my control, my manipulation,” all of which fans had already witnessed on The Valley.

Fans Have Petitioned For Bravo To Remove Jax From The Show

Jax’s actions on The Valley sparked major backlash from fans, who have created several petitions to get him removed from the show.

A Change.org petition that has over 12,000 signatures (as of this publication), reads:

“Jax Taylor, a prominent figure in reality television, particularly known for his role in the popular series “Vanderpump Rules,” has repeatedly exhibited behavior that is deeply concerning and offensive. His actions have not only disrespected individuals and communities, but they also perpetuate harmful stereotypes, bullying, and negativity that have no place in today’s progressive society. It is crucial that networks and producers take responsibility by disengaging from promoting such behavior.”

In fact, some fans declared they would stop watching The Valley following Jax’s return from rehab. According to Reality Blurb, when viewers voiced their outrage on social media and threatened to stop tuning in, Kristen Doute responded by encouraging them to continue to watch, at least for the sake of her storyline.

When a fan wrote, “Welp 25 min in and I’m out [Bravo]. Jax isn’t good TV or even a hate watch. He’s an abusive monster and the way the men, looking at you [Jason Caperna] try to deflect and act like Danny is the problem is disgusting. This is no longer fun.”

Kristen responded, “I totally agree but don’t leave us!!! My engagement episode is coming up soon!”

Although several outlets have called for Jax to be cut, it doesn’t seem like Bravo has any plans to let him go. Fans have criticized the network, claiming it prioritizes drama over the well-being of those involved.

Jax Revealed His Biggest Regret On WWHL

Fans were also taken aback by what Jax described as his biggest regret during his Watch What Happens Live appearance. “My biggest regret is not ending my marriage sooner, and I think I can speak to Brittany — this should’ve been over a long time ago. We let it go, and it just got so toxic,” he said.

However, Andy quickly challenged that perspective, suggesting that Jax’s real regret should be how he treated Brittany throughout their marriage, with Jax giving a brief response: “Yeah.”

Many fans also wondered about Jax’s ability to have his phone with he while in rehab. However, Jax told Andy that a law in California allowed him to have access to it, which is how he continued to rage text Brittany throughout his stay. “The state of California [doesn’t] allow you to [be] without your phone [for] 48 hours. I obviously took advantage of that. Should I have left them the phone? Absolutely. But I needed the control because I’m a control freak and I felt like that was my only sense of control.”

Jax also admitted to spying on Brittany because it gave him a “sense of control.”

“When you’re in this thing … I’m there, we’re filming the show, in the back of my head, I’m like, ‘I know these things are going on. I know they’re talking about me,’ and I couldn’t really hone in and lean into my therapy because I knew in the back of my head that they’re talking. There was things going on and I can’t control it except for my phone, and the rage texts were obviously very inappropriate, but I was looking for something in return. I wanted to see if [Brittany] cared, and that’s why I was doing all that.”

Given the mounting controversies and the blow to his public image, fans are justified in thinking Jax should leave The Valley.

The Valley Season 2 airs new episodes on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. Stream episodes the next day on Peacock.
