JD Vance shared a deeper connection with the late Charlie Kirk than many realized. Both JD and his wife, Usha Vance, were present to support Charlie’s widow, Erika Kirk, following his passing last month. JD, who stepped in as host for “The Charlie Kirk Show” on September 15, reflected on the experience. “It was heartbreaking, sad, and terrible, yet it was an honor for my family and me to be welcomed into the Kirk family during their time of sorrow,” JD shared. Just a week later, he delivered a moving speech at Charlie’s memorial service.

The loss of Charlie appears to have forged a stronger connection between JD and Erika, both personally and professionally. The duo is set to speak at the University of Mississippi on October 29 as part of the “This Is the Turning Point Tour.” Their engagement was announced on October 15, a day after JD witnessed Donald Trump awarding Erika the Medal of Freedom in Charlie’s honor.

Opinions varied among right-leaning social media users, with some suggesting the idea was premature and others criticizing the potential choice. Adding to the intrigue, Erika has grown close to JD’s wife since Charlie’s death.
Once people learned of JD and Erika’s joint appearance at Ole Miss, some started speculating that the pair could be spending a lot of time together in the future. “Spoiler alert: JD Vance will pick Erika Kirk to be Vice President when he makes his presidential run in 2028,” one X user wrote. Other right-leaning members of the Twittersphere weighed in. “I’d say it’s a very strong maybe. It might be a little bit early,” one replied. “That would be a terrible decision. She’s so bad acting,” another added. Adding fuel to the possibility of this political venture is the fact that Erika has also become close with JD’s wife since Charlie’s passing.
While hosting “The Charlie Kirk Show,” JD inadvertently made an awkward remark about his wife, Usha, while commending how Charlie treated Erika. He noted that Charlie never mistreated or lost his temper with Erika, a sentiment that resonated with JD. “The best way to honor my dear friend is by being the best husband possible, treating my wife as he treated his,” he expressed, even if it cast him in an unflattering light. Erika Kirk had high praise for Usha Vance at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service. According to Erika, when she was visited by Usha and JD Vance after her husband died, she went to the second lady for advice on traversing life in the fallout after Charlie’s shooting. “I held her hand and I told her honestly, I do not know how I am going to get through this,” Erica said at the service on September 22. The widow said that SLOTUS used an analogy of getting through the last “15 minutes” of a rocky flight with her children, and how it was important to take it 15 minutes at a time. “Usha, I don’t think you realized it then, but those words were exactly what I needed to hear,” Erica added. Not only did Usha have an impact on Erica, but Charlie helped inform how JD treated his own wife.
While hosting “The Charlie Kirk Show,” JD made a gaffe about Usha while trying to praise how Charlie treated Erica. The vice president said that Charlie claimed to have never mistreated or lost his temper with Erica, and that stuck with JD. “The best way that I can honor my dear friend is to be the best husband that I can be, to be the kind of husband to my wife that he was to his,” he said.. JD was eager to bestow praise on Charlie, even if it meant painting himself in a poor light.
