Jeremy Clarkson admits 'my heart is messed up' as he shares devastating health update

Jeremy Clarkson has given a heartbreaking insight into his health after revealing that he almost died. The motoring expert underwent heart surgery last year, where he had two stents fitted. The star experienced immense stress during filming of season four of Clarkson’s Farm, where he tackled various challenges of opening The Farmer’s Dog pub, navigating constant hurdles and red tape.

However his issues came to a head during his holiday in 2024. Clarkson did an awkward bellyflop when diving into the Indian Ocean, which led to a series of health problems upon his return to the UK, including clamminess, pins and needles in his left arm, and chest tightness. He later underwent an angioplasty operation while awake, and Jeremy now has to commit to extensive annual health checks that take up to eight hours and include prostate examinations.

Speaking about the toll his schedule took on him, he told Gloucestershire Live: “I like hard work. If I don’t do something constructive in a day, I struggle to fall asleep that night. But that was silly, and it did mess my heart up. It’s very stressful running a pub. It’s more stressful than running a farm.”

He reflected on the solitary nature of farming, saying, “You’re on your own on the farm, which is why there’s so much unhappiness in farming, because you’re dealing with it all on your own.”

His loyal fans also shared their concern for the farm owner’s well-being after watching his latest Amazon series, as one typed: “I’m surprised Jeremy didn’t blow a fuse opening that pub! A lovely insight into a world we don’t get to see!” In response, another said: “But he did have a suspected heart attack and needed heart surgery after the series finished filming. I knew what was coming and could barely watch. The warning signs were there. “

Clarkson pointed out the challenges of managing a pub: “The benefit is you don’t worry about other people, whereas with the pub, you’ve probably got 80 people working there. So it requires more attention running a pub.”

He shared that industry insiders had cautioned him against opening a pub due to the high stress levels and lack of profitability, warning that he would likely lose money.

Despite initial staffing issues post-launch, The Farmer’s Dog has found its footing and is now bustling with patrons.

Jeremy shared his hopes for the pub in these terms: “At the core of my pub is a place where you could go and just for an hour or so, forget your troubles, which is the point of a pub.”
