Jessica Simpson and husband Eric Johnson are calling it quits after more than ten years of marriage.
The singer and actress, 44, told People, “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” in a statement to the outlet published on Monday, January 13. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
The couple’s news comes just over nine months after In Touch reported that their public family outings were a “PR stunt” amid their troubled marriage.
“Eric has had one foot out the door for a long time, because Jessica is high-maintenance and difficult to live with. He complains about it all the time,” an insider revealed in April 2024.
The source later notes that Eric “loves Jessica deep down and wants their marriage to work. But it’s like she cares more about the public’s perception of her than her marriage. If she doesn’t start looking at the big picture, she may lose Eric.”
However, the source shared that the “With You” singer didn’t feel the same way, and was the mastermind behind the happy family photoshoots.
One month prior, a separate insider exclusively told In Touch that Jessica “doesn’t leave the house” and spends her time “constantly getting cosmetic surgery touch-ups.”
The Dukes of Hazzard star fueled speculation that her marriage was on the rocks when she disregarded Eric’s birthday in September 2024. Instead of publicly wishing her hubby a happy birthday on social media, she instead shared a cryptic post that had fans talking.
“Forgiveness doesn’t change the person who hurt you. Are you listening to me?” a preacher said in the clip that Jessica reshared from musician Tyrese’s Instagram account.

“Forgiveness doesn’t change that person. Forgiveness changes you. Guess what forgiveness does not do? Forgiveness does not mean you forget,” the video continued. “One of the most crazy theories is that you forgive and forget. You don’t forget, but you do have the opportunity to forgive every time you remember.”
Things took a turn in October when Life & Style reported that Jessica and the former NFL player’s marriage was “pretty much over.”
A source told the outlet that Jessica and Eric “tried couples counseling, which worked for a while, but then things went back to the way they were.”
“They don’t spend nearly as much time together as they used to, and they’ve just grown apart,” the insider added.
Jessica sent fans into a frenzy when she seemingly hinted at her marriage woes while teasing new music via Instagram.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” Jessica captioned the post, alongside a photo of herself lying on an eclectic-style chair while rocking a white dress, lengthy gogo boots and a fur coat. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Fans chimed off in the comments section of the post, leading one person to ask, “Is this j simp saying she’s single?” A separate fan replied to the question, “I think her photos have been saying that for months.”
While the couple didn’t publicly address the ongoing split rumors, Jessica’s sister, Ashlee Simpson, did.
“Is it true? Do you know?” a TMZ reporter asked Ashlee of her sister and brother-in-law on November 12.
The “Pieces” singer, 40, replied, “No.”
