Dame Joan Collins expressed heartfelt sentiments for her husband, Percy Gibson, on the occasion of his 61st birthday. The iconic Dynasty actress, now 92, has enjoyed a marriage with Gibson—who is 31 years her junior—since 2002. On Instagram, Joan delighted fans with a nostalgic collage of images showcasing their 25-year journey together. She captioned the post with: “After 25 years of togetherness, I never tire of my charming, wonderful, and humorous A-Hubby Percy Gibson. Here’s to a fantastic birthday filled with boundless love.”
Emotional fans and friends were quick to flood the comments with birthday wishes for Gibson, including broadcaster Piers Morgan, who wrote: “Happy birthday to the great Percy!” “You are a wonderful couple, happy birthday from over the pond,” gushed a second as another penned: “Happy Birthday! You both look so happy together.” A fourth added: “25 years together – a beautiful proof of true love! May every day ahead be as special as this anniversary.”
The couple’s paths first crossed in 2000 during the production of the play Love Letters, which Gibson was producing. Joan reflected on their initial meeting in a 2018 essay for the Daily Mail, mentioning that she had no plans to marry again at the time.
She wrote: “When Percy and I met 18 years ago, I was in a long-term relationship that was dragging along. I had declared that I never wanted to marry again, and I kept to that promise until I met Percy.
“We hit it off immediately. He was funny, engaging, good-looking, and after the show I would socialize with him, my co-star George Hamilton and my daughter Katy.”
The American Horror Story star had been married four times before tying the knot with Gibson.
“I kissed a lot of frogs before I found my prince,” she wrote in her 2011 memoir, The World According to Joan. “For those women who are looking for a life partner, that old saying that men are like buses and ‘if you wait long enough the right one will come along’ is true for a reason.”
Collins married Irish actor Maxwell Reed on her 19th birthday in 1952. They divorced two years later. She tied the knot with actor and singer Anthony Newley in 1963 before the pair headed their separate ways in 1971. They had two children; daughter Tara, 62, and son Alexander, 60, during their marriage.
Collins’ third husband was Beatles record producer Ron Kass. They walked down the aisle in 1972, when she was six months pregnant with their daughter Katyana, 53. Collins and Kass divorced in 1983 and she went on to marry Swedish pop singer and producer Peter Holm in 1985. They divorced two years later.
In an interview with the BBC, Collins gushed that she had finally found her soulmate after meeting Gibson.
“It was giddy, it was fantastic, and Percy and I fell madly in love. I’ve finally found my true soulmate and my husband forever,” she said.
