Nevertheless, some backed John’s sentiment, including Rex who said: “Thank you Mr Cleese for being a voice of wisdom and intelligence. Thanks for all your years of entertainment and thoughtfulness. World is better because of you.”

This is not the first time the Monty Python star has snubbed the Royal Family and has famously turned down numerous honours over the years.
