It came to an end in the early 2000s, but Friends’ impact can still be felt today. Of course, the main six cast members played a crucial role in terms of the show’s success, but the sitcom also saw various guest-stars along the way. Some received major praise, while others were forgettable.

As it turns out, John Stamos felt as though his cameo fell in the ‘forgettable’ pile, and we’re going to reveal why.

We’ll also take a look at other cameos that didn’t go to plan, at least according to the celebrities that took on the roles. We have other examples aside from John Stamos, including major stars such as Jennifer Coolidge and Paul Rudd. Let’s take a look.

The Things

Appearing on Friends was a huge deal for any actor’s career. However, with it came a lot of pressure. An established star like Kristin Davis admitted she barely slept the night before her cameo on the series.

As for Jennifer Coolidge, she also had a different experience. The star had pitched some improv work during her cameo, but it seems like the writers were adamant about sticking to the script.

“Sometimes I think people want to hear my ad-libs when I get on a show, and they really don’t. Sometimes I come in and throw some lines, and they come up and say, ‘You know, Jennifer, we’re just going to stick to the script.’ That was a serious show.”

“The vibe was pretty serious,” she continued. “I don’t think they wanted my input, and I could really feel that…sticking to their own stuff. So I didn’t have the guts [to push].”

Coolidge did get to improvise her dance at the end of her run on the show. However, overall it was an intimidating experience for the actress.

“I have to say, I was kind of intimidated, even though I knew Lisa because she was in a comedy group. But I didn’t know the rest of them, and I was very intimidated because they were all so attractive and had it going on.”

“I’m just going to do my little part, and I’ll be in my dressing room.”

As for John Stamos, well he was in for a different experience and one that bruised his ego…

John Stamos Was Told To Wait For The Applause To End Before He Started On Friends, But The Applause Never Came…

The episode aired back on May 8th, 2003. The One with the Donor took place during season 9. Monica and Chandler are struggling to have a child, and in comes Chandler’s colleague Zach. Of course, Zach didn’t extend his ‘juices’, but it made for a memorable episode with the sitcom star appearing on the show…

However, that didn’t appear to be the case with the live studio audience…

Given his success with Full House, most assumed he’d receive a major ovation, and that held true with Matthew Perry. Stamos recalls, “They said, ‘You come in here and you hold for applause and then you take your moment and move on,'” he recalled. “Matt Perry (Chandler) was like, ‘Oh, man, they’re going to be excited.'”

The result was a heartbreaking one as Stamos did receive any applause, and they just shot the scene while moving on.

“I open the door and I walk in and … silence. I remember being sort of heartbroken; they were all waiting for the people to clap in the audience and they didn’t,” he said. “That’s what I remember. It was weird, right?”

Although he was treated well by the cast, and he was perfectly fine in his role, the reception was a major letdown.

Although Paul Rudd was more of a regular on Friends, his experience was tainted given that he didn’t expect to stay on the show as long as he did.

“It was really fun, and they were great! The whole thing was a bit surreal, I must say, to be a part of that — because I came on really at the end,” Rudd reveals with CNN.

“I never knew that I was going to be in as many [episodes] as I was.”

Rudd was also put in a very awkward situation during the finale, given that the cast was sobbing, while he was still relatively new.

“It also felt strange. I was in that last episode, and I just thought, ‘I shouldn’t be here. I’m getting a front-row seat to things I’m not supposed to see.’ They were all crying, it was all emotional, and I was just like, ‘woah!’”

Clearly, appearing on Friends was career-altering, but it also came with a lot of stress behind the scenes.
