Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness is giving fans an inside look at his weight-loss journey and the progress he has made.

“Lost 66 pounds!” the hair stylist and reality star, 37, wrote via his Instagram Story on Sunday, February 23, alongside side-by-side mirror selfies showing off his weight loss.

Last month, Van Ness revealed in a post via TikTok that he had been using a GLP-1, a category of medication that includes Ozempic and is used to treat diabetes and aid in weight loss, to help him deal with a binge eating disorder.

“Alright, I have a confession to make. Yes, I am on a GLP-1 or a weight-loss medication,” Van Ness said in his January 8 post. “If you have been following me for a long time, you’ll know that I gained and lost weight several times very publicly. And this time in my life, I knew that I needed a little bit of extra help.”

He went on to say that he had tried taking the weight loss medication as a pill in the past to no effect, so he is now using an injectable GLP-1. “With everything I’ve been through publicly and privately in the last couple years, I gained quite a bit of weight, wasn’t feeling good,” Van Ness shared. “The most important thing was, my binge-eating disorder was out of control.”

Van Ness shared that he started the GLP-1 injections in September 2024, saying he “felt immediately better.” He added, “I was consistently making decisions that I regretted with compulsive eating and with bingeing that just left me feeling really not good, depressed and out of control.”

He continued, “I, for the first time in my life, have had control over my food intake. It has helped me so massively, and that’s part of why I wanna be honest with you about it because I know how important asking for help is, and how much asking for help can change your life in terms of healing. This time, I needed help.”

Van Ness is one of several celebrities who have decided to use GLP-1 medications to help them lose weight. Per the Cleveland Clinic, GLP-1 medications mimic the GLP-1 hormone naturally made in the small intestine which slows stomach emptying and makes you feel fuller for longer.

Actor Josh Gad revealed last month that he had lost 40 pounds while using a GLP-1 medication. “It has suppressed, in a great way, that noise. … When I wake up, I feel hunger pains — and so much of that is psychological, right? And what this does is it takes away that signal,” he explained on a January 2025 episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast.

“It is life-changing, but it also doesn’t negate the fact that it can’t be in the place of having a healthy relationship with food,” he continued. “It can’t be in the place of having a healthy relationship with exercise. … I’m having my own journey with it. Sometimes I feel like I’m cheating myself by doing this.” He added that his “primary goal is, I want to be there for my kids. Everything else is bulls—.”
