Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has found an unexpected reason to embrace the Halloween festivities: a nod to Katy Perry!

“Getting into the Halloween spirit with Hadrien: he’s the surfer, and I’m the shark (on his left). We crafted these costumes together—some good old father-son Halloween collaboration. 🎃🦈🏄‍♂️,” Trudeau, 53, shared on Instagram on Friday, October 31. The post featured a picture of his youngest son, Hadrien Trudeau, dressed as a surfer with faux injuries, while Trudeau donned a shark outfit reminiscent of the famous ‘Left Shark’ from Super Bowl 49.

Trudeau’s shark costume closely mirrored the outfit from the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show, where the now-iconic “Left Shark” became a sensation for its offbeat dance moves during Perry’s performance, capturing the public’s imagination.

Speculation about a possible romance between the former prime minister and the singer began in July when the two were seen strolling through Montreal’s Mount Royal Park, followed by a private dinner at Le Violon restaurant.

In a playful nod to her rumored relationship with Trudeau, Katy Perry, 40, liked an Instagram post by the satirical publication The Onion. The post, shared on Monday, October 20, humorously alluded to her connection with Trudeau, 53, showcasing her ability to laugh off the swirling gossip.

Us Weekly later confirmed their relationship on October 24, though insiders told Us the singer and her new beau are taking things slow.

“They’ve decided to be much more private about it. … They are still speaking and are very interested in each other,” one source said at the time, while another added that their relationship “isn’t serious” since Perry was “extremely busy” on tour.

They also said, “Justin has made plans to see her when she has downtime in a few weeks when she gets back from her tour in Brazil. Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating.”

On October 25, another source gave Us more insight into the pair’s budding romance.

“Katy is really into it. She’s very happy,” an insider told Us. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”

The source continued, “Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet.”

The pair’s relationship went public one month after Us exclusively confirmed that Perry and ex Orlando Bloom had officially called off their engagement after 10 years together.

“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” reps for the pair confirmed in a joint statement to Us on July 3. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”

In September Bloom told NBC’s Today of Perry: “We’re great [and] we’re going to be great. It’s nothing but love.”

Bloom, 48, and Perry share their 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, and the Lord of the Rings star also shares 14-year-old son Flynn with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr. Perry was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
