There’s a place viewers can find Karen Huger outside of Real Housewives of Potomac. The reality star brings her Grande Dame personality to the new CBS daytime drama Beyond the Gates. In Touch takes a look at the cast and Karen’s role in the soap opera as she awaits sentencing in her DUI case.
Karen Huger Appears on the CBS Daytime Drama ‘Beyond the Gates’
Karen was seen in the second trailer that dropped for the new CBS series. It introduced the various cast members in their roles and the final scene featured the reality star turning around and delivering the line, “Welcome to Fairmont Crest!” Karen then snapped her finger in the air towards a character who had just been slapped across the face by another woman during a dramatic confrontation.
Viewers will have to watch and find out whether Karen is playing herself on the show or if she’s appearing as a character. Her Beyond the Gates cameo appearance has yet to be listed on Karen’s IMDb.com page. The series officially premiered on February 24, 2025, after a week of previews introducing the cast and plotlines.

What Is ‘Beyond the Gates’ About?
It’s only fitting that Karen appears on Beyond the Gates, as the soap opera is set in an affluent Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C. The show centers around the Dupree family, “a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty,” according to a CBS press release in January 2025.
The gated community of Fairmont Crest is home to “juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.”
Beyond the Gates is the first daytime drama to be centered around a Black cast since 1991. While the show takes place outside of Washington, D.C., it is filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
Who Stars in ‘Beyond the Gates’?
Tamera Tunie, best known for her role as medical examiner Dr. Melinda Warner on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, portrays family matriarch Anita Dupree. Madame Secretary alum Clifton Davis plays her husband, Vernon Dupree.
The characters’ daughters, Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson and Dani Dupree, are played by actresses Daphnee Duplaix and Karla Mosley, respectively. Other cast members include Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Maurice Johnson and Colby Muhammad.

Karen Huger Missed the Season 9 Reunion of ‘RHOP’
The Bravo star appeared in all nine seasons of RHOP but was noticeably absent when the season 9 reunion episodes began airing on February 16, 2025.
Karen checked into rehab by the time the reunion taped the month prior. The move came after she was found guilty of driving under the influence in December 2024. She pre-taped a video on December 27, 2024, which played at the reunion where Karen said how she wanted “to address taking antidepressants and drinking.”
“I plan to be coming back as Karen Huger only,” she told her castmates about leaving her status as the Grande Dame behind in rehab. “’Cause Karen is enough.”
Karen Huger Told a Judge She Had Withdrawals From Pills While in Rehab
Karen claimed the stress of losing her parents, Benjamin B. Wooden Jr. and Georgia Wooden, and providing “responsible leadership on” Real Housewives of Potomac led to her taking more anti-depressants, and she believed this played a role in her being arrested for driving under the influence, In Touch exclusively reported on February 24, 2025.
The Bravolebrity made the claim in court documents obtained by In Touch, where she asked a Maryland judge to go light on her at her sentencing on February 26, 2025.
Karen Huger Is Facing Jail Time in Her DUI Case
Karen was arrested in March 2024, after she drove her 2017 Maserati into a tree. Officers believed she was under the influence of alcohol and placed her under arrest. In December 2024, a Maryland jury found Karen guilty of driving under the influence, negligent driving and failure to control speed to avoid collision.
While Karen faces up to two years in prison, prosecutors are asking for a six-month jail sentence, as she had two prior DUI convictions and a third that was pleaded down to reckless driving. The charge of reckless driving was dismissed.
In addition, they want her to have to install a interlock device on any car she drives and complete a Mother’s Against Drunk Driving victim impact panel and submit to any additional alcohol treatment programs that the court sees fit.
Karen’s legal team has argued in favor of a lighter sentenced focused on her rehabilitation and recovery.
