Kate Garraway’s future on ITV as one of Good Morning Britain’s presenters has been questioned following the recent changes the broadcaster has announced. Concerns were raised after it was revealed the mum-of-two has been faced with the daunting challenge of paying back £800,000 after the tragic death of her husband, Derek Draper.

During a furious debate earlier this year, with Health Secretary Wes Streeting, the 58-year-old admitted she has “excessive, unpayable debt” after funding his care bills. The former political lobbyist died last year after a COVID-related illness, and despite needing full-time care, Derek was not eligible for funding, which left Kate to incur debts estimated between £500,000 and £800,000. Despite these worries, it’s been reported that Kate has been told her job on Good Morning Britain is safe.

According to a source via the MailOnline: “There will be a bit of moving people around, but all of the roster will stay. Kate is loved by the audience, and her job is now safe.

“It could have been devastating for her if she was to go in the cuts but actually most of the savings will be made by not doubling up on coverage and there will, sadly, be lots of staff going from behind the scenes.”

“It will be such a relief for Kate, she has had a horrid time, and money is an issue for her,” the insider added.

This comes after ITV announced major cuts to several of its daytime programmes, including Lorraine and Loose Women, alongside previously confirmed changes to Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The sweeping overhaul, which was made public in May and is expected to take place in January 2026, will see Lorraine Kelly’s eponymous show lose its longstanding hour-long slot.

The programme will instead air from 9.30am to 10am, and restricted to being broadcast only 30 weeks of the year.

During the 22 weeks Lorraine is off-air, Good Morning Britain will extend its run until 10 am, adding an extra hour to its schedule; therefore, its current 6 am to 9 am slot will be permanently extended until 9.30 am.

While This Morning will still be broadcast from 10.30am to 12.30pm, Loose Women is being scaled back. The lunchtime panel show will now air seasonally for just 30 weeks a year.
