Kate Gosselin is opening up about one of the most emotional moments of her life: losing a baby during her historic pregnancy with sextuplets.
More than 20 years after she and ex Jon Gosselin welcomed their sextuplets, Kate reflected on the original septuplet pregnancy and the heartbreak of losing one of the babies.
“I forgot to tell you a really important story about the seventh baby,” Kate shared in a TikTok on September 3. “We had our first ultrasound at six weeks and there were seven babies. I think they had us come back the next week—it was either the next week or two weeks, I can’t honestly remember—to see how they had progressed.”
It was during that follow-up that the couple—who already shared twins Mady and Cara, now 24—learned one of the babies had not survived. Despite the loss, Kate continued with her sextuplet pregnancy, facing a frightening miscarriage scare a few weeks later.

“At some point I started bleeding,” she said. “I, of course, thought this was the beginning of a miscarriage. I was losing them all, but we already knew the seventh baby had stopped growing.”
While in the emergency room, Kate feared the worst.
“I said I was pregnant with six babies—used to be seven—and they did the ultrasound and I was just waiting on pins and needles,” she recalled. “At some point [the ultrasound tech] just got really quiet, and I thought, ‘Here we go, it’s done.’ I was really, really scared.”
But relief followed.
“All of a sudden, she said, ‘I see six,’” Kate added. “‘You see six what?’ I asked. And she said, ‘I see six heartbeats. They’re there.’ At that point, that was the moment I knew I was committed to these babies because I realized the relief. And I started sobbing.”
Kate has previously shared that she underwent fertility treatments due to polycystic ovary syndrome, documenting her journey to conceive all eight of her children in a multi-part TikTok series. Reflecting on her first successful pregnancy with twins, the 50-year-old recalled the overwhelming joy of hearing the first heartbeat.
“It gives me chills,” she said in an August 29 TikTok. “Cara had a heartbeat. Mady had a heartbeat. I literally was sobbing so hard and shaking, they were like, ‘Wait, wait, hold still, we can’t see.’”
