A royal expert highlighted a key difference between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.
During a recent episode of the Palace Confidential podcast, host Jo Elvin remarked on the Princess of Wales’s newfound “confident and experimental” approach to her wardrobe.
Jo, speaking to Mail columnist Sarah Vine, hinted that the princess might occasionally introduce new designers into her rotation but stressed the importance of adhering to Royal expectations.
Sarah responded: “She’s not announcing the clothes that she’s wearing. She doesn’t want to make it the focus of who she is, but she still has to look good and, to an extent, look fashionable as well because she’s a young woman.”
She continued: “I mean, everyone expects her to play that role. Most women in their forties know what suits them, and they’re more comfortable in their own skin, and you can really see that in her.”
Sarah described Kate as having a “Jackie O style”, radiating an “innate confidence” and showing that she knows her “strong points” and “limitations”. Yet, when discussing Meghan Markle, she had a slightly different opinion.
Regarding the Princess of Wales, she concluded: “She’s so confident in what she wears now, it almost doesn’t really matter.
“You know, when we had the Duchess of Sussex around, with her, you always got the sense that she was wearing clothes almost as a way of promoting the brands, whereas I don’t get that with Catherine at all. I don’t think that’s why she does it.”
Kate, Prince William’s wife and future queen consort, met the heir to the throne at the University of St Andrews in 2001 and started dating him in 2003 during their student days.
It emerged recently that Queen Camilla initially harboured doubts about Kate for several reasons, as Royal commentator Tom Quinn pointed out on Channel 5’s documentary The Middletons: Modern Royals-in-Law.
Tom claimed he’d heard that Camilla “wasn’t very keen” on Kate, as she didn’t shoot and wasn’t into horses. However, he conceded that the pair later developed a strong bond.
In contrast, Meghan Markle’s high-end fashion statements garnered attention on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
According to The Mail, the stylish Duchess of Sussex donned garb and trinkets valued at an eye-popping £130,000 during her lifestyle show.
