Kate Winslet has voiced her concerns over the growing trend of cosmetic procedures and weight loss drugs, suggesting that young women today are losing touch with the true essence of beauty.
In a candid discussion with the Times, the acclaimed “Titanic” actress, now 50, expressed her dismay over the increasing prevalence of cosmetic injections that leave many women looking identical. “Oh, it’s terrifying,” she remarked, highlighting the unsettling nature of this cosmetic conformity.
Winslet further elaborated on the emotional impact, stating, “It is devastating. If a person’s self-esteem is so bound up in how they look it’s frightening.” Her words underscore the psychological toll these beauty standards can impose on individuals.
She also shared her appreciation for actresses who embrace their own unique style and body shape, saying she loves seeing women dressed according to their personal taste. However, Winslet noted that a significant number of people are turning to weight loss drugs in an effort to fit societal molds.
“Some are making choices to be themselves, others do everything they can to not be themselves,” Winslet observed, pointing out the contrasting paths individuals take in their pursuit of beauty.
“And do they know what they are putting in? The disregard for one’s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f—king chaos out there.”
Aside from bashing “all the f—king actresses,” Winslet slammed non-famous “people who save up for Botox or the s—t they put in their lips.”
The actress then emphasized that she hadn’t undergone any procedures.
“My favourite thing is when your hands get old,” she told the outlet. “That’s life, in your hands. Some of the most beautiful women I know are over 70 and what upsets me is that young women have no concept of what being beautiful actually is.”
Winslet “blame[d] social media and its effect on mental health” for the type of “perfection” people were aspiring towards.
“It’s heartbreaking,” she said. “Nobody’s looking into the f—*ing world anymore.”
The “Reader” star has previously shared she thinks “women get more beautiful as they get older.”
“Our faces become more of who we are, they sit better on our bone structure, they have more life, more history,” Winslet told Harper’s Bazaar UK in September 2024.
While the “Revolutionary Road” star is against cosmetic injections, she’s previously admitted to undergoing testosterone replacement therapy to increase her sex drive.
“Women have testosterone in their body, when it runs out, like eggs, it’s gone, and once it’s gone you have to replace it and that is something that can be done and you’ll feel sexy again,” she said on the “How to Fail” podcast in 2024.
