Keith Urban appeared to make a veiled reference to the challenges in his marriage to Nicole Kidman, just before she initiated divorce proceedings.

On the premiere episode of “The Road” this past Sunday—a show spotlighting 12 up-and-coming musicians vying for the chance to open for Urban on his U.S. tour—Urban performed “Straight Line,” a track from his latest album, “High.”

Back in February 2024, Urban, now 57, shared insights on Instagram about the song’s inspiration, describing it as a reflection on the desire to escape a monotonous and draining routine.

He further clarified, “This could apply to relationships, jobs, creative pursuits, or even personal struggles—whatever feels confining!”

The country star emphasized that the essence of the song is about regaining a sense of vitality and breaking free from oppressive circumstances.

“Straight Line” is the first track on the album “for a lot of reasons,” but particularly because “it represents an energy and spirit that became a through line of the whole record,” he shared.

Urban told his fans he was “gonna cover a lot of themes, emotions and vibes on this album but a very human spirit runs through them all.”

At another point during the competition show, the musician complains about being “lonely and miserable” while reflecting on the hardship of touring, noting that the show must go on no matter what is going on in one’s personal life.

News broke in late September that his and Kidman’s 19-year marriage was coming to an end.

“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” a source told us at the time, adding that the actress, 58, “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.”

Kidman — who shares daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14, with Urban — filed for divorce the following day.

Rumors then began swirling that Urban may have been romantically involved with his guitarist Maggie Baugh, though the speculation remains unconfirmed.
