Kelly Dodd has broken her silence after a voicemail controversy involving her daughter, Jolie, surfaced.
In an exclusive statement to Us Weekly on December 1, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star, 50, expressed her remorse. “I’ve apologized to Jolie. My main goal is to have her back in my life,” Dodd explained. “My words came from a place of anger and frustration, but I’ve been doing my best to close the distance between us.”
Dodd also admitted to regretting her choice of words towards 19-year-old Jolie in the leaked voicemail. Despite her efforts to reconcile, she revealed that Jolie has not yet accepted her apology.
“Was it the right thing to do? No. Have I apologized? Yes, I have. But she’s struggling to let it go, influenced by poor advice from others. She has some maturing to do,” Dodd remarked, discussing her daughter’s reluctance to forgive. “It’s causing a rift with my mom and brother, and everyone should be encouraging us to make peace. Healthy families work to resolve issues and avoid division.”
On Friday, November, 29, a video clip appeared online featuring a voicemail message that Dodd left for Jolie. The recording was allegedly sent to one of Jolie’s friends to relay the message from her mom after her daughter blocked her “from everything.” It is unclear when the voice message was originally sent.
“You just opened a Pandora’s box Jolie. I have recordings of you, screaming at your dad because he isn’t taking you on vacation, screaming that he didn’t buy you a car,” Dodd said. “Do you remember those recordings that I saved? I have those and I’m going to publicly put them out there. Do you understand?”
Dodd continued, “For you to do this to me after I bought you a car, paid for your college, paid for your health insurance, took you to the doctors, got you all your clothes, I did all that. Meanwhile, your dad was being some f**king loser and put those three kids first before you. I have all of those so what you just did right now, you’re going to look like a fool, you dumb little girl. You’re stupid, OK? For even thinking that you’re going to win.”
After Dodd’s voicemail went viral, the former reality star reshared two Instagram posts from a Bravo fan account that defended her treatment of Jolie amid the voicemail drama.
“This whole Kelly Dodd voicemail thing is such a f**king joke. Oh please, give me a f**king break. You clearly don’t have a teenage daughter if you feel bad for Jolie here,” read the first post that was shared via Dodd’s Instagram story. “Let alone a spoiled and entitled f**king brat that uses whatever parent benefits her in the moment. She sure isn’t complaining about that fully, luxuriously furnished apartment in Paris and tuition by mommy.”
The post continued, “So who’s the one who ended putting things out in the public??? Mom or daughter?? Yeah. That’s what I thought. She’s no longer a child. She needs a cold hard reality check. Uses her mom for fifteen years, and then blocks her to go use her dad who abandoned her now. Little bitch.”
The second post Dodd shared echoed similar sentiments.
“All family fights and make up, no one is spared. I have seen Kelly and her love for her daughter is so very real, all moms and daughters fight,” the second one read. “No one should judge a parent’s love or anger, it’s between her and her daughter. Wishing them peace and working it out.”
Dodd joined the RHOC cast in season 11, which aired in 2016. In 2021, Dodd’s contract was not renewed and she subsequently departed the series following season 15.
