Kelly Osbourne has announced her engagement to partner Sid Wilson, following the last-ever performance of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, with Black Sabbath. The engagement ring holds a deeply personal significance for her.
On Saturday, Ozzy bid farewell to his Prince of Darkness persona as he took to the stage for the last time. The 76-year-old rock legend reunited with his Black Sabbath bandmates at Villa Park, Birmingham, in what was hailed as one of the most memorable goodbye concerts in music history.
Following the spectacular show, the Osbourne clan were treated to a delightful surprise backstage when Kelly’s long-term partner Sid dropped to one knee and proposed. Sharing the joyous moment on Instagram, Kelly, 40, uploaded a touching video of Sid asking her to be his life partner.
Accompanying the video, Kelly penned: “Oh, and this happened yesterday.”
In the footage, Sharon can be heard whispering: “We’ve got to be quiet, hold on,” as she hushed the crew backstage. Sid then declares his love for Kelly, saying: “Kelly, you know I love you more than anything in the world.”
However, Sid’s romantic proposal was swiftly interrupted by a playful Ozzy who shouted: “F*** off! You’re not marrying my daughter.” Unfazed by Ozzy’s teasing, Sid chuckles and proceeds to pop the question to Kelly.
He said: “Nothing would make me happier than spending the rest of my life with you. So, in front of your family and all of our friends, Kelly, will you marry me?” Kelly spun around, visibly stunned, before covering her face with her hands and nodding ‘yes’.
MailOnline has since uncovered the poignant significance behind the ring, revealing it as a homage to his partner’s late friend Joan Rivers, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 81. Sid aimed for the ring to reflect a pet name he and Joan shared for Kelly.
He explained: “So I have a nickname for Kelly, and it’s “Honeybee” and coincidentally a friend of hers, Joan Rivers used to call her this. It was a nickname [Joan] had for her. I didn’t know this, it’s like an amazing coincidence, it’s like whoa, like meant to be.”
Kelly earned the affectionate nickname for her constant ‘buzzing around’ and her knack for ‘spreading good energy’, inspiring Sid to choose a bee and pollen theme for the ring. The design boasts a distinctive beehive-inspired structure, adding a layer of sentimentality to the piece.
The ring is crafted from 18K yellow gold, adorned with white and yellow diamonds, citrine accents, and crowned with a 2.5 carat round brilliant-cut diamond, resembling aspects of this special nickname.
