Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes have ended their relationship once more, after a brief attempt to reconcile, Us Weekly has learned.
A source close to the pair confirmed the breakup exclusively to Us, stating that Ballerini, 32, and Stokes, 33, parted ways “this past week.”
The relationship between the Grammy-nominated singer and Stokes was described as “so rocky and toxic,” the insider revealed, noting that it became overwhelming for Ballerini.
Jealousy played a significant role in their split, according to the source, with Ballerini struggling with trust issues towards Stokes. This challenge was compounded by her difficulties in trusting again following her divorce from Morgan Evans. (Ballerini and Evans, 40, finalized their divorce settlement in November 2022 after separating earlier that year.)
Even with her inner turmoil, the source tells Us, Ballerini “of course cares” about Stokes, but there were “a lot of expectations” amid her busy schedule that factored into their split.
“Chase really did try to make it work and loves her,” the insider explains, noting the exes “aren’t talking right now.”
Despite their recent split, the source says, “There’s a chance they could get back together,” but confirmed for now, they are “taking space.”

Stokes and Ballerini began dating in January 2023. Throughout their two-year romance, the Outer Banks star publicly supported Ballerini on tour and at different country music awards shows.
Most recently, Stokes gushed over Ballerini in September in honor of her birthday, calling her his “love” via social media. Days later, Us confirmed that Ballerini and Stokes had broken up.
“It was a hard split,” a source exclusively told Us at the time. “They had been arguing a lot recently, and their communication wasn’t great in the last month. They were both traveling so much and trying to juggle everything, and the arguments piled up.”
Their split was short-lived and the couple were spotted spending time together in Scotland in October.
Eyewitness Gemma Kennedy exclusively told Us earlier this month that when she saw Ballerini and Stokes in Europe they were “very much loved-up and holding hands at the bar.”
Following their Scotland trip, the twosome were seen in Croatia in early November where Stokes was filming the final season of Outer Banks.
Us confirmed on November 10 that Ballerini and Stokes were “giving their relationship another try.”
The source revealed, “There’s still a lot of love there, so they fell back into it very naturally,” noting the pair “never really stopped being in touch after their brief split.”
While Ballerini and Stokes never publicly commented on their reunion, fans were surprised to see the “I Sit in Parks” singer at the 2025 CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 19, without the actor.
Stokes, for his part, raised eyebrows on Thursday, November 20, when he shared a series of cryptic messages seemingly hinting at his and Ballerini’s split.
“Don’t believe the media. I’m blocked, I did nothing wrong. Sorry. I tried,” he wrote in one Instagram Story. (Eagle-eyed fans noticed that same day that Ballerini and Stokes no longer “follow” each other on Instagram.)
Stokes added, “I’m sorry for those who believed in us. It is what it is. Onwards and upwards.”
Ballerini and Stokes’ reps were unable to be reached for comment.
