Kelsey Parker heartbreakingly reveals how she told kids about stillborn son

Kelsey Parker has opened up about the devastating loss of her baby son in a new interview on ITV’s Lorraine.

The 34-year-old announced the loss of her baby boy Phoenix – her first with boyfriend Will Lindsay – in June, after he was sadly stillborn at 39 weeks.

Kelsey, who lost her husband Tom Parker in 2022 to an inoperable brain tumour, appeared on Lorraine on Thursday (7 August) to discuss how she and her family have been dealing with grief for a second time around.

She emotionally revealed how she dealt with having to tell her children, Aurelia, six, and Bodhi, four, about Phoenix’s passing, highlighting the importance of “being honest”.

“It’s being honest. It’s telling them facts because I never want them to feel like I’ve not been honest, and years later go, ‘Oh, but mum you didn’t tell me this and you didn’t tell me that’,” Kelsey explained.

“I don’t like the thought of them being in separate rooms and adults having conversations, because kids listen. Your kids will be sat playing with a toy, but they’re listening to your conversation.”

She added, “For me, we are so honest with them. Obviously, they’ve gone through this before; they’ve lost their dad. They know their dad is with the angels now, so we said, ‘Phoenix has gone with your daddy’.”

Kelsey also spoke about how she and her partner Will have been coping with Phoenix’s passing, saying they are taking each day at a time.

“We just take each day, and each day looks so different for both of us, but I’m strong. I keep saying this, but I am actually really strong, and the one thing that we are guaranteed is that we are going to die, and I do think talking about death and grief is so important,” she told Christine.

Speaking about her own ways of dealing with grief, Kelsey revealed that keeping things as close to “normality” as possible for Bodhi and Aurelia has been important.

“My kids are my everything, they have got me through the darkest of times, I can’t believe I’m back here three and a half years later dealing with such a loss and a devastation, but me and Will have the kids and they have to have normality, they have to go to school,” she said.

Kelsey added: “I did do the school run and for me, I think you have to rip the plaster off at some point, and if I’d left it until after the summer holidays and I came back and saw the parents, people don’t know what to say, we are so awful about talking about grief, loss and death and us as a family, we’re not. So, I did get up and do the school run, and I faced everyone.”

Concluding the emotional interview, Kelsey highlighted how “grief looks so different” for every individual and how there should be “no judgement” when it comes to experiencing grief.

Lorraine airs on ITV1 on weekdays from 9am
