After swapping acting for farm life, Kelvin Fletcher has revealed he believes he could play the role of Andy Sugden on Emmerdale better if he could do it today.

The 39-year old is all set to star in a new series on ITVBe called Fletchers’ Family Farm which follows him and his family as they navigate living life on their farm.

Interestingly, Kelvin’s on-screen character of 20 years was also a farmer and now that he is a full-time farmer in real life, the Strictly Come Dancing champion believes his skills could make him play his character better.

The dad-of-four said: “At the time when I was saying those lines, I didn’t completely understand them but now I am doing things I talked about back then!

“Maybe I would have played that part better now that I actually have experience.

“I can’t imagine myself or my family doing anything else. Farming is a part of my DNA now,” he revealed.

Kelvin believes that as he was acting, there weren’t any skills he took from Emmerdale to be a farmer today.

“There’s no way I am allowing people to think he played a farmer for 20 years, he must be alright at farming,” he continued.

“But yes, the irony is I played a farmer and now I have become a farmer. If you had told me, when I was in Emmerdale, that I would eventually be a farmer, I probably would have looked at you a bit strange.”

Kelvin will be joined on the new series by his wife Liz and their four children: Marnie, six, Milo, four, and twins Mateusz and Maximus, one.

When asked how the children are navigating farm life, Kelvin said: “Two years ago, they had never been on a farm and now it’s like they have always lived here.

“But kids do that anyway, they always take everything in their stride. They are so amazing.”
