Kim Kardashian recently opened up about a time when she leveraged her friendship with Britney Spears in a bid to gain fame back in the early 2000s. During an appearance on “Khloé in Wonder Land,” the SKIMS mogul recounted an evening in New York City with her friend Jonathan Cheban, when they discovered Spears was staying at a nearby hotel.

“Fame was all I ever wanted,” Kardashian confessed. “I lived for it.” The reality TV star, now 45, detailed how she and Cheban, now 51, were dining with a group that included someone driving a luxurious Phantom Rolls-Royce, a stark contrast to their struggle to even hail a cab at the time.

“We were like, ‘Oh, can we get a ride to our hotel?'” Kardashian recalled, noting that the man agreed to give them a lift, providing an opportunity for them to edge closer to the glamorous world they longed to be a part of.

Kardashian, now 45, explained how one person they were dining with was driving a Phantom Rolls-Royce when she and Cheban, now 51, “could hardly even get a cab.”

“So we’re like, ‘Oh, can we get a ride to our hotel?’” she continued, adding that the man agreed.

Strategically, Cheban suggested he and the reality star sit in the backseat to appear as if they were being escorted around by a driver.

Kardashian recalled arriving at the hotel and seeing “paparazzi everywhere waiting for Britney.”

“They come out, and they’re like, ‘Kim, Kim, are you here to visit Britney?’ And Jonathan’s like, ‘Keep your head down and just shut up,’” she said.

“So we go inside, we go into a phone booth because we’re like, ‘We don’t know anyone at this hotel. We don’t even know if there is a hotel bar for us to walk in.’”

The “Kardashians” star shared how she and Cheban stayed in the phone booth for about 20 minutes before deciding it was time to go.

She recalled sending paparazzi into a frenzy as she left, with them asking, “Kim, how was Britney?”

“We … took a cab, I think from that point, because this Rolls Royce person dropped us off, but [the paps] weren’t going to take pictures of us getting in, so we totally scammed the system.”

“And it was on every cover, and we thought we were killing it,” Kardashian added.

Spears, now 44, and Kardashian first met in the early 2000s, when they were linked through their mutual friend Paris Hilton.

The duo has seemingly maintained their friendship, and came together for a cozy sleepover last November.
