Beyond Paradise star Kris Marshall, aka DI Humphrey Goodman, has returned to the charming town of Shipton Abbott in this Death in Paradise spin-off, where he will continue to solve a range of bizarre and intriguing cases. With more than two decades in the entertainment industry, Marshall has starred in memorable roles as Nick Harper in My Family to lovable character Colin Frissell in the iconic 2003 romantic comedies Love Actually.

While many admire Kris Marshall’s friendly on-screen presence, the actor has revealed a deeply personal reason behind his hesitation to partake in fans’ requests for selfies. In a candid conversation with The Mirror, Kris expressed his discomfort with fan interactions. Kris recounted an incident which led him to establish a boundary: “I have a rule now where if I’m with my kids, I’ll of course stop and say hello, but I won’t do pictures,” he shared, providing insight into his careful navigation through the complexities of public attention.

Kris Marshall has revealed a harrowing incident that now influences his interactions with fans, especially when he’s with his children. He recounted, “That’s because when my son was about two, we were on a pier and I stopped to do a picture and he ran off. I couldn’t find him and I was so stressed. So if I’m alone, with my wife, with friends, no problem. If I’m with the kids, I can’t. I need to keep hold of them.”, reports OK!.

The actor also disclosed his strict personal policy regarding social media engagement, stating: “I don’t do any of that. You don’t want someone like me on there! I’d say stuff. I’m pretty good at watching what I say these days, because I was shipped off for some training on how to do interviews a few years back, but it took me a long time to learn. I’d get myself in so much trouble.”

Despite his celebrity status, Kris is keen on preserving a normal life for his family, away from the glare of public scrutiny. He tied the knot with Hannah Dodkin in 2012, and they have since settled down in Bath with their children, Thomas and Elsie.

In addition to his encounters with fame, Kris opened up about his personal life, expressing his fondness for domestic bliss, his deep affection for his family, and his unique pastimes. These range from relishing quiet evenings by the fire to an unexpected interest in picking up litter.

He admitted to having a peculiar hobby, saying: “I’d say sweeping up is my biggest hobby. There’s a touch of OCD, it drives my wife mad. I think she sees me as some grumpy old man looking out of the window squinting to see if anyone’s dropping litter on the drive. She’s thinking, ‘Get over yourself.'”.
