Kristen Bell decided to restrict comments on her Instagram account after facing backlash for what many deemed a “tone-deaf” anniversary post celebrating her 12-year marriage with Dax Shepard.

On Monday, the actress, known for her role in “Nobody Wants This,” chose to limit public feedback following criticism of her weekend post. In it, she shared a message that read, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you.'”

She recounted a conversation with Shepard where he remarked that “a lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point,” but assured her he “would never” do so, even though he might be “heavily incentivized to kill [her].”

The 45-year-old actress’s comments quickly sparked controversy, especially as October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

One critic pointed out the insensitivity, saying, “That’s a wildly sad and insensitive thing to say considering it’s domestic violence awareness month and thousands of women have died at the hands of the man they trusted…”

“just an fyi, posting this caption during domestic violence awareness month is unbelievably tone deaf :/ please reconsider,” another chimed in.

“Oh wow … that’s a very odd thing to say🧐,” a third agreed.

Several others told the actress that abuse wasn’t a topic to take lightly, writing that it was a “joke” that Bell would consider the post “sweet.”

Bell has yet to comment publicly on the uproar.

The “Veronica Mars” alum, meanwhile, nearly forgot it was her and Shepard’s anniversary on Friday until she was reminded by an “Entertainment Tonight” reporter at the “Nobody Wants This” Season 2 premiere the day prior.

While stopping to talk with the outlet on the red carpet, she thanked the reporter for the reminder, saying, “You know I don’t remember that. Oh, shoot. I’m so glad that you told me.”

Despite not remembering the big day, Bell shared she and Shepard, 50, did have a date night planned, though she didn’t think he remembered their anniversary either.

Bell and “Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard” podcaster tied the knot in 2013.

The couple share two daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10.
