Forget about private security… Jeff Bezos has Lauren Sanchez.
The power couple attended the National Portrait Gallery’s 2022 “Portrait of a Nation Award” gala in Washington, DC, on Saturday, and sources told us Sanchez never left Bezos’ side.
“He was very engaged, and really nice to people who approached him, but she was always right there,” a spy told Page Six.
“She’s incredibly protective over him. She’s very warm about it, and delightful to everyone, but, yeah, she was definitely protecting him,” they added.
Judging by Bezos’ billion dollar grin, we’d say he wouldn’t have it any other way. Our source told us, “he always had a smile on his face, and was so comfortable and relaxed with her.”
The room was filled with Beltway power players including Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was flanked by security — but Bezos “was placed in the center of the room, and all of the paparazzi were around his table,” we hear.
Serena and Venus Williams, Clive Davis, Ava DuVernay, Marian Wright Edelman, chef Jose Andres and Dr. Anthony Fauci were honorees at the bash.

We hear Serena even took her shot to score an invite to Davis’ annual pre-Grammy bash, which is returning in person next year, we hear.
Another source told us the retired tennis pro grabbed Davis in front of her portrait by Toyin Ojih Odutola and asked, “So, are you going to invite me to the party?” “Yes!” Davis replied.
David Hockney painted Davis, and the music legend’s family and friends — including Alicia Keys, Don Lemon and Sandra Lee — were there to support him. Spies saw Lee and fiancé Ben Youcef chatting up director Ron Howard at the back of the gallery.
Meanwhile, Bezos hosted a party at his area home the previous night, where Davis filled in recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dolly Parton on how her song, “I Will Always Love You,” will be used in an upcoming Whitney Houston biopic.
Davis was overheard telling Parton, “All I can say is that it holds a very prominent place in the film, a place that reminds us all of how gifted dear Whitney was, and proud she was to record this great song.”
Parton did not attend Saturday night’s gala.
