LBC host horrified by caller's 'fat' comment as he rages 'did you just say that?'

One LBC Radio guest left host Tom Swarbrick absolutely bewildered by her brutal comments. Caller Andrea rang in to discuss her strong opinion that claiming benefits is shameful – but it took a really shocking turn. She fumed: “It is shameful, you should feel ashamed. It can help you for a short time I agree, but you cannot live and have generation after generation getting a house.”

She then added: “My niece, my big fat niece, I always talk her, has never had a job from 18, she’s 36, never worked.” Andrea went to continue that her niece had a child, but the host had to interject.

His eyes started to widen when he heard Andrea refer to her niece as her “big fat niece”.

Stifling back a laugh, he asked: “Andrea, not to tread on family landmines here, but did you just describe her as your big fat niece?”

Andrea, without holding back, continued: “Yes, she is. She is lazy, useless, does nothing. ‘Oh, she’s got issues’, yeah her mother told her, probably, that she had issues. She should work!

“She could walk dogs, she could clean old people’s homes, do something. You can’t just be handed money and sit there while we go, ‘oh don’t worry, we’ll fund you,’ it’s not fair!”

Her comments divided people in the comments as one user wrote: “Well done calling her niece out,” while another said: “It’s unkind and the point of this lady’s call was about her not working so criticising her physical appearance isn’t helping, in fact it distracted from her point because he interrupted her and was shocked by what she said.”

Another wrote: “Maybe she shouldn’t body shame her.”

Others wrote: “She’s absolutely spot on,” and “The woman is right! Sick of the benefit grifters.”

But the distraction mostly seemed to come from her comments about her neice, as another user stated: “You don’t need enemies when you have family like this.” Someone joked that Aunt Andrea won’t be getting an invite to Christmas.

LBC often shares controversial clips online after giving people a platform to talk about all kinds of things that frustrate them, in this instance the welfare system.

LBC is on 24 hours a day and can be found via digital radio or the Global Player.
