Lionel Richie and Lisa Parigi’s 40-Year Age Gap Ranks Among Hollywood’s Biggest Romances

Lionel Richie’s career was already the stuff of music history long before his girlfriend, Lisa Parigi, was born. The “All Night Long” hitmaker first became a household name with the Commodores in the 1970s, roughly 20 years before Parigi arrived in September 1989. Richie, born June 20, 1949, is 40 years her senior — an age gap that stands out even in Hollywood, where high-profile romances with significant age differences are hardly unusual.

But despite the massive age gap, Richie and the much-younger Parigi, a model who has her own lifestyle and beauty brand, have been making it work for more than a decade. The couple reportedly began dating around 2014, when Parigi was about 25 and Richie 65. The longevity of the relationship hasn’t protected the couple from facing scrutiny over the matter, though. “The significant age gap is cringeworthy at best,” an X user commented. Others agreed. “What could they possibly have in common! She is dating a grandfather!” a second netizen argued. Richie’s relationship with Parigi may have caused a stir, but the legendary singer also received plenty of support.

Many fans pointed out that Richie has remained youthful even in his 70s. “Lionel looks better now than he did when he was 30! Kudos to him,” an X user defended. Others simply noted that Parigi is a fully grown woman capable of making her own decisions. “They are both adults. It’s not a big deal,” another netizen wrote. Richie has never addressed the age gap he has with his girlfriend, but he has opened up about how happy she makes him.

For Richie, who has been through two divorces and a widely publicized cheating scandal, Parigi appears to have brought a calming presence into his life. “At this time in my life when you can be so jaded about things, [my girlfriend] Lisa kind of makes everything feel a bit safe,” he told People in 2019. The singer also praised her intelligence and support, adding, “She’s extremely beautiful, but most importantly she’s smart and helps me deal with my crazy world.”

Their bond, by Parigi’s account, began less like a whirlwind romance and more like an effortless meeting of minds. The pair were introduced through mutual friends during a dinner in Los Angeles, and while there was no dramatic love-at-first-sight moment, the conversation flowed immediately. “It was very organic and very random, but we had great conversations, we spoke all night long about everything,” Parigi told Harper’s Bazaar Arabia in 2022. “And yet it was, you know, the universe.” Though Richie tends to keep his private life out of the spotlight, he has never been shy about expressing his affection for her.

That affection was on full display in November 2022, when Richie was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and included Parigi in an emotional tribute to the people closest to him. “The most important thing is I want to thank all of my friends, my family, Miles, Sofie, Nicole. The grandkids. Lisa, my heart,” he said during his speech (via Fox News). The couple has not married as of this writing, but Richie has suggested that the possibility is not off the table. “I won’t rule that out,” he told the Mirror in 2025. “As I say to all my friends: ‘Stay tuned.’”
