Lionel Richie has paused his “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour after returning to the hospital on September 22, 2026, amid his ongoing battle with atrial fibrillation, a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat. The singer is scheduled to undergo AFib ablation in an effort to restore a regular heart rhythm. As a result, he has canceled his next three tour dates with Earth, Wind & Fire in San Francisco, Chicago, and Columbus, Ohio.
This marks the second time Richie has stepped away from his 2026 tour because of health concerns. After performing in St. Louis at the end of August, he was hospitalized and spent three days in the intensive care unit while doctors evaluated him for dehydration and cardiac issues. Earlier in June, Richie also left the stage during his concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, after becoming dizzy and was taken to the hospital.
Fans are comparing his health struggles and desire to keep performing to the late Dolly Parton, who passed away in August 2026 at the age of 80. “He needs to retire so he can enjoy the spoils of a lifetime of wealth building. He doesn’t want to end up like Dolly where he’s doing a show, has to suddenly stop to go to the hospital, and passes away a few days later,” an X user said. More fans echoed this sentiment. “This brother is magnificent & talented beyond light years. He did his thing & has nothing more to prove. But now it’s time to shut it down Mr. Richie & to enjoy what is left of your life with your family,” one fan pleaded.
