Lizzo believes it’s high time she embraces and celebrates her physique.
The artist dazzled in a sparkling pink minidress during her performance in Houston on Friday night, marking a significant milestone in her ongoing “weight release” journey. Over the years, she has managed to shed 16 percent of her body fat.
In photos shared on Instagram, Lizzo graced the stage in a dress emblazoned with “Lizzo Bowl,” paired with chic black closed-toe heels, a glistening diamond necklace, and striking silver metallic nails.
Since 2023, Lizzo has successfully lost approximately 60 pounds, and she expressed her gratitude in her post with the caption, “I 💜 U HOUSTON!”
The 37-year-old musician has been open about her weight loss journey, discussing her experiences in a Substack essay titled, “Why is everybody losing weight and what do we do? Sincerely, a person who’s lost weight,” published in November.
Lizzo began losing weight following a public harassment and hostile work environment scandal, confessing that the ordeal made her “deeply suicidal.”
She “would tend to binge when sad and depressed,” but “didn’t feel like doing that” after the eruption of her career.
“It was never about being ‘thin’ for me. I don’t even think it’s possible for me to be considered actually ‘thin.’ I will always have the stretch, and the skin of a woman who carries great weight. And I’m proud of that. Even when the world doesn’t want me to be,” explained the Grammy winner.
Lizzo said she was “sick and tired of [her] identity being overshadowed by [her] fatness,” and she knows that experience is not specific to her.
“We’re in an era where the bigger girls are getting smaller because they’re tired of being judged. And now those bigger girls are being judged for getting smaller by the very community they used to empower,” she argued.
“There’s nothing wrong with living in a bigger body,” added the songwriter. “There’s nothing wrong with being fat. But if a woman wants to change, she should be allowed to change.”
Last April, Lizzo denied rumors she used medications like Ozempic or Mounjaro to obtain a slimmer frame.
Although, months later, she did cop to trying the weight loss drug for a small period of time.
Lizzo also credits her weight loss to avoiding consuming “sugary stuff” in the morning and opting for “super savory” foods instead.
“If do something sweet, it’s gotta be with some sort of, like, carb. I’ll have, like, almond butter and toast. So, everybody’s body is different. Find out what works for you,” she explained, adding that she believes the only thing that “works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out.”
As Lizzo put it, “That’s just how the human body works.”
