Love Is Blind: Germany Season 1 Episode 8 Recap: My Nerves Are Shot

If things heated up in Greece on Love Is Blind: Germany, now things are growing icy for some of the cast members of the reality TV show. Many couples are still clearly struggling with communication and basic compatibility.

In this episode of the show, the weddings are fast-approaching, and the pairs have major decisions to make. For one couple, sadly, it all proves to be too much.

Hanni Remains Hesitant

We open with Hanni and Daniel talking about how suit and wedding dress shopping went. Hanni says she didn’t have “the moment” she was expecting, that she didn’t put on a gown and feel like everything clicked. “I still don’t 100% know that I’ll say yes at the altar,” she admits, and Daniel looks crestfallen. Could her hesitance set the tone for the rest of the cast?

Next, we see Alina and Ilias cuddling in bed. Ilias tells the cameras that, while the pair took the physical side of things slowly, now that they’ve moved things further along, their connection is “very beautiful.” Despite it all, Ilias tells the cameras he’s still left wondering if there’s such a thing as a “perfect” relationship, and if so, if his dynamic with Alina can ever be that. Ilias continues to frustrate me, as he strikes me as the kind of guy who’s always on the hunt for the next best thing.

Later, Hanni opens up to Daniel about how seeing her parents split was hard on her. She becomes so emotional that she has to walk off camera, with Daniel following her. Eventually, she shares more about her devastation with the cameras:

I think my parents really tried their best. But of course it’s sad when the people you love the most decide to split up and go their separate ways.

Hearing more about Hanni’s family background really clues us into her thinking now: she’s a person who sees divorce as a momentous failure, and it’s clearly adding to her anxiety about walking down the aisle now. She admits that she feels “cornered” by Daniel asking her where she’s at with her feelings.

Another Couple Crumbles

Next, we see Jen and Marcel having a serious conversation. Jen is preparing to introduce Marcel to her mother, but she sits him down and tells him that things between them still feel stuck. “I feel like you don’t communicate with me,” she tells him, even saying that being around the apartment together feels suffocating for her.

When Marcel tries to insist that he does initiate conversations and that he doesn’t see an issue, Jen puts her foot down, making the choice for both of them instead:

Do you want to keep going another week? This is totally toxic for me. Then I’ll make the decision that I can’t do it.

With that, the two split up. Even at the end, Jen is frustrated that Marcel can’t speak about his feelings more, just passively accepting her decision. I feel for Jen, for whom communicating with Marcel in the real world has been like pulling teeth, and I genuinely don’t know what else she could’ve done in her position.

Later on, Ilias and Alina do a video call to meet her parents, unable to meet up in person. One thing that comes up for them is that they live in different cities; while Alina is willing to move further north to be with Ilias, he says he’d feel bad taking her further away from her family.

Things seem like they’re coming to a screeching halt with Hanni, who’s still freezing up about committing. Though she took some time on her own to think about things, she says she still needs some time alone, and so she goes to stay at a hotel on her own for the evening. Daniel is distressed about the fact that she may possibly be having second thoughts, but he’s still supportive in giving her the space that she says she needs.

Meanwhile, Sally and Medina go out for a romantic date night, but they hit a hiccup when Sally asks if he’s still willing to move to Hamburg to be near her family, just like they discussed in the pods. Medina says he’s unsure if he’s ready for that, and it quickly becomes a conversation about how the two don’t appear to be understanding one another, and ultimately they cut their dinner date short. Sally tells the cameras that she’s unsure whether she’s asking for things that Medina is “incapable” of giving her.

After some time apart, Hanni and Daniel get back together for a conversation. She tells him she feels much better and, most importantly, she wants to keep moving forward as a couple. Hanni says that, so long as she can get some alone time whenever she needs, she’s happy to keep living with him and leaning into their relationship.

Before we know it, we’re at the wedding ceremonies, and Hanni and Daniel are first up. Hanni clearly has some big day nerves, and she says that even the sight of her wedding dress on the rack gives her anxiety. Once her friends show up to support her, however, she feels more comfortable. For his part, Daniel dons a tan suit and tells the cameras that he’s ready to tie the knot with Hanni. He’s still nervous, however, because he doesn’t know where Hanni stands on her decision.

“I want to listen to my gut feeling, but right now my thoughts are all over the place, and I’m alone in this chaos,” Hanni says as she walks up to the ceremony. Just as the doors open for her to head down the aisle, the episode ends, and we’re taunted with having to wait another week to see what happens. In the teaser for the next batch of episodes, we also get a glimpse of Sally and Medina getting dressed up for their wedding ceremonies, as well as Alina and Ilias. Will any of the couples actually make it through?
