Love Is Blind Shocker: Season 9 Ends with No Weddings

Season 9 of Love Is Blind has garnered the reputation of being the series’ most disappointing installment yet, and the reasons are apparent. The season was rife with drama, featuring intoxicated arguments, adult temper outbursts, and much more. As a result, some viewers expressed a lack of enthusiasm for any of the couples on the show, remarking that there wasn’t a single pair they truly supported.

In an unprecedented turn for the popular Netflix series, none of the couples from this season ended up tying the knot. Addressing this outcome, the show’s creator, Chris Coelen, has spoken out about the experiment’s failure.

Heading into the finale, three couples remained engaged: Ali and Anton, KB and Edmond, along with Megan and Jordan. However, before the weddings took place, Megan and Jordan decided to part ways. Megan initiated a difficult conversation, revealing to Jordan that their lifestyles were simply too different to sustain a relationship. Jordan shared with the audience that he believed they might have had a future together if his financial situation matched Megan’s, but acknowledged it was too late if she had already made her decision.

Three Couples Crumbled At The End

Going into the final episode, there were three engaged couples remaining: Ali and Anton, KB and Edmond, and Megan and Jordan. One couple, Megan and Jordan, broke up before the weddings, with Megan having a tough conversation with Jordan where she explained she felt their lifestyles were too different to be compatible. Jordan told the cameras that he still felt like they’d be moving forward if his finances were more like Megan’s, but that it was too late now if she’d already made up her mind.

This left two duos who actually made it to the altar. At their wedding, Anton said “I do,” to Ali, but, when it came time for her answer, Ali gave a tearful response:

After exiting the ceremony, Ali told the cameras that, while she loved Anton, she believed he “wasn’t forthcoming” about his true habits while in the pods, noting that he didn’t eat as well and drank way more than he claimed in the early stages of the experiment.

KB and Edmond also stood before the altar, and although Edmond said “I do,” Kalybriah ultimately said no as well. She admitted that while she cared for him deeply, she wasn’t completely sure about marriage and didn’t want to make a lifelong promise she might regret—for both of their sakes. While Edmond sobbed, she assured him that she would always be there for him, just in a different capacity.

The Show’s Creator Isn’t Bothered By The Result

Even though the experiment is designed to create lasting relationships, creator Chris Coelen said he wasn’t bothered by the season’s result. In a conversation with Today, Chris said that, regardless of outcome, “the trying is the most enjoyable and important part for [him].”

Chris went on to note that his true priority was for participants to choose the path they felt was truly destined for them:

I’m honestly surprised this is the first season where nobody got married. While we’re always rooting for our participants to find a lifelong commitment — because that’s what they all say they come to Love is Blind for — most importantly, we root for them to make the decisions they feel are right for themselves. And I think that’s what happened here.

Chris clearly doesn’t think Season 9 will affect the success of future seasons to come. “In Season 9, at least one member of each couple felt their love was not strong enough to overcome the challenges of the real world, and they chose not to get married,” he said. “That’s exactly how the experiment is supposed to work, so I would say not only is the experiment working, I think it’s working better than ever,” he added.
