Love Is Blind Star Joe Reveals Shocking Reason for Abrupt Exit During Filming

Among this season’s most intriguing personalities on Love Is Blind is Joe Ferrucci, a 29-year-old seeking romance on the Netflix reality series. With his engaging presence in the pods, Joe initially won hearts and decided to propose to his chosen partner, Madison Maidenberg, during the show’s early phase.

As the episodes unfolded, however, their relationship began to unravel. A pivotal moment occurred when Joe, in a state of inebriation at a group gathering, became unintelligible. This incident was soon followed by his abrupt decision to exit the experiment after a tuxedo shopping trip, leading to a breakup with Madison. Joe has since opened up about the reasons behind his sudden change of heart.

Joe revealed to Us Weekly that stepping into the real world triggered some uncertainties for him. He found it disconcerting that Madison appeared unfazed by their potential challenges. This lack of concern set off a wave of introspection, leading him to believe it was better to end things sooner rather than risk the turmoil of possibly rejecting her at the altar.

Joe Was Thrown By Madison’s Confidence

While Joe started to have some doubts as soon as they stepped into the real world, he shared with Us Weekly that he was surprised when Madison didn’t seem to be concerned about their ability to make it. He admitted that he got in his head about the relationship, telling himself that it would be worse if he got all the way to the altar and said no instead of cutting it off sooner.

He confessed that he hit a “breaking point” while tux shopping and envisioning the big day with Madison:

I definitely crashed out. At that certain point, [I thought], ‘Why am I going through these motions if I have in my head that, ultimately, I’m not going to be able to say yes on that wedding day?’ It felt a little faulty on my part, and I could have handled it better. That’s the story of my experiment on TV. It just felt disingenuous on my part to even be there, if I didn’t think we had enough time to get there or if I knew this wasn’t my person.

“In simple terms, I had these emotions that I was aware of, and I was trying to mask them with other things. [I couldn’t] be in the moment and feel what I was feeling, because it is super emotional, high pressure, anxiety-ridden, and I just couldn’t do it anymore,” he shared. “The light bulb definitely came up, like, ‘Why am I still here?’” he added.

Joe Has Found Humor In His Show Edit

When Joe is seen exiting filming after tux shopping, first hiding in his truck before driving off, the producers of the show chose to play the song “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter over the scene. Joe mentioned in the aforementioned conversation with the outlet that he understood this song choice was a poke at his rash behavior.

That said, Joe has taken his edit on the show in good stride thus far, even playing into being the butt of the joke. He said it wasn’t a problem for him to be the punchline in that instance:

That’s kind of funny. You have to laugh at yourself.

While Joe doesn’t regret his Love Is Blind experience, he has noted that if he could go back and change anything, it would be to drink less during filming. New episodes of the show will be available on Netflix on Wednesdays.
