Deciding to marry someone is not something that should be taken lightly. It’s a lifetime commitment, after all. So, when Monica realized she wasn’t ready, she knew she couldn’t go through with the wedding. It was a harsh blow for Joey, that’s for sure, but in the end, if she truly didn’t know what she wanted, it was better this way.
The Love is Blind couple was apparently doomed long before the wedding. Monica had been unsure about Joey for a while. But there was one moment that made it clear to her that he wasn’t the man she wanted to spend her life with.
When Did Monica Know She Would Say No To Joey?
After Monica turned Joey down at their wedding, fans and friends alike wondered what had happened. Monica recently opened up during an interview with E! News and confessed that it hadn’t been just a case of cold feet. No, she’d been having doubts for a long time.
“The moment I knew I would say no at the altar was the night before,” Monica revealed.
Apparently, she was worried that, while she was ready to go all in with their relationship, Joey wasn’t as committed.
“I was really thinking about everything, and I never got what I needed from Joey. I never got the, ‘I’m committed to you’ from Joey that goes beyond just the saying, ‘I love you.'”
After she realized that, everything related to the wedding was surrounded by a sense of “uneasiness.”
“You should not feel uneasy going into a wedding to your fiancé. So, in that moment, that was my answer.”
Why Did Monica Attend The Wedding Anyway?
The night before their wedding, Monica already knew she couldn’t marry Joey even though she loved him, but she showed up to their wedding anyway when she could have walked away before.
According to her, she was still holding out hope that Joey would show him just how committed to a life together he was so that she would get over her doubts.
“I was hoping that it would have changed,” she explained. “I was hoping that that next day at the wedding, he would have said something to me to make my answer change to prove to me that he was ready.”
But as fans know, that was not the case.
Monica shared that when the “final buzzer was going off,” Joey still hadn’t proved to her that he was serious about their relationship. “And it didn’t happen after filming, she added.
Their current relationship? It’s non-existent.
“Joey and I do not talk,” Monica stated. And it’s apparently her decision.
“Joey’s tried to reach out to me and I’m exhausted. I don’t have time. I tried to have a romantic relationship with Joey—that didn’t work out. I tried to have a friendship with Joey—that didn’t work out.”
While it’s sad that a relationship that started out so loving ended on such a sour note, at the end of the day, it’s better they parted ways before they made such a big commitment.
