Madelyn Cline has subtly responded to the end of her former flame Chase Stokes‘ relationship with Kelsea Ballerini.
Fans with a keen eye spotted that Cline, now 28, gave her approval to a February 10 Instagram post by Music Mayhem magazine. The post highlighted Ballerini’s reaction to Ashley Cooke‘s yet-to-be-released breakup song, “X’s,” which hints at themes of infidelity.
Cooke, 28, shared a snippet of the song on her Instagram on February 9, singing, “Whiskey nights, wandering eyes make messes / Hiding phones, ‘idks’ make questions,” and continuing with, “Towns talk and the truth starts spreading/ Don’t you know crossing lines makes Xs / Oh, don’t deny I know you did it / Oh, it doesn’t matter how you spin it / Want me back after that? forget it / Don’t you know crossing lines makes Xs.”
Ballerini, who is 32, also interacted with Cooke’s post by “liking” it and leaving a telling comment, “mmmhhhmmm.”
Despite the recent breakup, Kelsea Ballerini has expressed confidence in her boyfriend, Chase Stokes, maintaining a professional relationship with his ex, Madelyn Cline, on the set of “Outer Banks.” During a November 29 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Ballerini, then 30, addressed rumors about feeling threatened by the time Stokes, now 31, and Cline, 25, spend together, dispelling any concerns of jealousy.
After Cline reacted to Music Mayhem’s reporting on Ballerini’s comment, fans took to the comments section to speculate about the dynamic between Stokes, 33, and his two most recent exes.
“Maddie’s like is frying me,” one person wrote under the outlet’s post.
Another fan commented, “Madelyn Cline liking this is all the tea we needed!!”
“I really hope Chase wasn’t playing both these ladies, because he was confused by his feelings… starting to appear that way,” a third user wrote.
Cline’s “like” came days after she and Ballerini laughed together in a selfie on February 2.
Cline and Stokes, who costar on Netflix’s Outer Banks, dated from June 2020 to October 2021.
Meanwhile, Us Weekly exclusively confirmed on February 6 that Stokes and Ballerini had split for the third time after being on and off for the last few months.
Stokes and Ballerini began dating in January 2023. The former couple remained steadfast until September 2025, when a rep for Ballerini confirmed their first split.
The breakup didn’t last long. In October 2025, Ballerini and Stokes were spotted together near Scotland’s Edinburgh Castle, with eyewitness Gemma Kennedy telling Us that the pair “seemed really happy and smiley.” Multiple sources confirmed to Us in November 2025 that Ballerini and Stokes had officially reconciled.
Weeks later, Us confirmed that Stokes and Ballerini had split for the second time. Sources told Us that things between the two had gotten “rocky and toxic.”

Ballerini and Stokes later confirmed another reunion via Instagram on New Year’s Eve 2025.
“Messy year for the heart, messy year for the outside coming in, messy year for the way it became an out of our hands portrayal of it,” Ballerini wrote, captioning a photo of them kissing. “But what I’ll say, and all I really care to share indefinitely with my personal life anymore, is that I really love love. I believe in it, I believe in him, and I believe in breaking patterns. Now go kiss your person and stop speculating.”
A source exclusively told Us about Stokes and Ballerini’s split on February 6, noting that the country singer is officially “done” with her ex. Stokes, on the other hand, “still isn’t ready to give up,” according to the source.
Another insider exclusively told Us on February 9 that Stokes and Ballerini could never regain their original spark.
“Ever since they split the first few times, the dynamic totally shifted and it was never the same,” the insider shared. “Something felt a little more off this time around, almost like they were forcing things again.”
