Marc Anthony has finally addressed the ongoing discord within the Beckham family after being inadvertently drawn into the controversy.
The 57-year-old musician, a long-time confidant of the Beckhams, was mentioned by Brooklyn Beckham in a pointed critique of his parents, David and Victoria, particularly in relation to his 2022 nuptials with Nicola Peltz.
Anthony described the family squabble as “unfortunate.”
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter released on Monday, Anthony remarked, “The Beckhams are a truly remarkable family. I’ve known them since before their children came into the world, and I am Cruz’s godfather. My bond with them is very strong.”
He continued, “I have no comments on the events that transpired. It’s a shame how it’s unfolding, but the portrayal seen publicly is far from the reality.”
In Brooklyn’s shocking public statement he shared via Instagram Stories in January, he claimed his mom “hijacked” his first dance with Peltz at their wedding reception and then “danced very inappropriately” on him, leaving him “uncomfortable” and “humiliated.”
“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead,” Brooklyn wrote.
A source later told Page Six that the moment in question was not the couple’s very first dance, but happened after they, their family and other guests had already been dancing for a while — when Anthony took the stage to perform.
The Grammy-winning singer was apparently supposed to introduce Brooklyn, 26, and Peltz, 31, who would then dance on a specially built stage.
“It was meant to be the big romantic first dance,” a second wedding insider told us. “It was pre-determined specifically for Nicola and Brooklyn.”
Instead, Anthony called Brooklyn up to dance with “the most beautiful woman in the room” — not the new bride, but Victoria.
The first guest told Page Six that Victoria “got up on stage and wrapped her arms around Brooklyn” and “nuzzled into his neck.”
“She was dancing with him very inappropriately. She took that moment from Nicola, that is the God’s truth.”
The guest added, “Nicola ran out crying. The Beckhams’ side of the room was cheering and the Peltz side was quiet.”
In Brooklyn’s statement, he noted that he did not want to reconcile with his family.
Since then, his siblings — Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14 — have put on a united front supporting their parents.
Romeo unveiled his new tattoo on the back of his neck reading “family” on Sunday, a pointed choice after Brooklyn’s decision to cover up his right arm tattoo dedicated to his dad as well as the ink on his fingers once dedicated to his siblings.
