It’s safe to say Maria Shriver was excited about Patrick Schwarzenegger’s wedding to Abby Champion.
“One minute you’re fixing his bow tie, the next minute he’s getting married!” Shriver, 69, wrote via Instagram on Monday, September 15, alongside a throwback photo of her putting on her son’s tie and several photos from his wedding to Champion, 28. “Oh, how time flies as a parent.”
Shriver, who shares Patrick, 31, Katherine, Christina and Christopher with ex-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger, then went on to “congratulate” Patrick and her “new daughter-in-law on their beautiful wedding.”
“I’m so proud of them, of their love, their commitment to one another,” she gushed in her post. “They are the best of friends, and they are surrounded by great friends, loving supportive family, and god.”
The journalist explained how it is a “humbling experience to watch your baby boy grow into a good man and take this huge step in his life,” noting that she “wept” at their wedding on September 6.
“Oh, yes I did, but I was also bursting with joy. I’m grateful to god to be alive and to witness such a beautiful union,” Shriver said. “I wish the newlyweds a life of understanding, love, and ongoing compassion for one another. And magic! Congrats, Patrick and Abby! Love you both always and deeply! 👰♀️🤵🏻.”
Less than two weeks ago, the White Lotus star and Champion exchanged vows in a lakeside ceremony at the Gozzer Ranch country club in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, according to photos published by the Daily Mail.
According to multiple outlets, Patrick’s parents as well as his sister Katherine, 35, and her husband, Chris Pratt, were in attendance.
Following their nuptials, Champion shared that Patrick was very hands-on when it came to planning their wedding.
“Funny enough, it’s more Patrick’s personality to dive into the flowers and little details,” the model told Vogue on Saturday, September 13. “He helped with so much, which I absolutely loved. … I still can’t believe it’s over. It all flew by like a dream, [and] I’m so excited to start this next chapter with Patrick.”
Patrick and Champion started dating in 2016 and announced their engagement on social media in December 2023.

“💍❤️FOREVER AND EVER ❤️💍,” they wrote in a joint Instagram post.
One month later, Patrick revealed that he and Champion were in no rush to get married.
“We’ve been together [for] 10 years, so it’s like we’re basically married,” he said in a January interview with InStyle. “But we’re better as humans together than we would be apart. We bring out the best in each other. I feel that I’m the best version of myself with her and I think she does as well.”
