Mel Schilling, widely recognized for her insights on love and relationships, recently weighed in on the contentious topic of infidelity in partnerships. The Married at First Sight expert, who also hosts a podcast on human behavior, began her journey on MAFS in 2015 and tied the knot with Gareth Brisbane in 2020. As we navigate the complexities of modern love in 2025, many are increasingly relying on search engines to sift through the myriad of evolving dating trends. In response, Google has teamed up with a dating specialist to showcase how their new AI Mode can simplify the dynamic dating world for Brits.

In an exclusive chat with Express Online, Mel shared her perspective on infidelity and its justification. She remarked, “Based on my experience, infidelity stems from a variety of motives—some can be understood, while others are harder to empathize with. I’ve conversed with many individuals who’ve cheated, and those who manage to nurture successful relationships afterward are typically those who own up to their actions, apologize, explain their motivations and mistakes, and commit to making positive changes moving forward.”

Looking ahead at the dating landscape, Mel observed, “I foresee savvy daters leveraging technology to boost their odds of connecting with highly compatible partners.”

“Conventional dating apps will form just one part of a broader strategy, complemented by Google’s AI Mode, virtual and in-person micro-community gatherings, and a network of supportive dating allies. The future of dating doesn’t have to be daunting; it just requires a strategic approach.”

Does Mel recall her first-ever date?

She recalled: “I remember being in primary school, maybe 8 or 9 years of age, and a boy named Alan asked me out. Our date consisted of standing on opposite sides of a big, gaping hole in the ground and throwing stones at each other! So romantic.”

When she was quizzed about why dating seems a lot harder these days, she commented: “It’s no surprise that many Brits are finding dating more complicated so I was drawn to this campaign as AI Mode in Google really delivers a tool that can help Brits keep up with the latest dating trends, decipher dating lingo, and ultimately users in their quest to find genuine connection.

“Google is making it easier for daters to go deeper with their search, and with AI, searching the latest dating trends and terminology can become effortless.”

A staggering 71% of Brits believe life is more complicated than 10 years ago, with more than two thirds (67%) putting it down to the speed of new trends.

AI Mode in Google combines all facets of Search together to deliver suggestions. It is also designed to be truly multimodal, so Brits can ask questions in whatever way feels most natural — whether that’s with text, voice, or even their camera.

Mel Schilling has partnered with Google to show how AI Mode in Google is reenergising Search to help Brits make sense of ever-escalating dating trends.
